Hi! for anyone new reading this, I'd like to let you know right here that this story has been discontinued. It was my first attempt at a fic, and eventually I realised I just wasn't happy with it.
That being said, if you still want to read this fic, I hope you enjoy it!
Jungkook scanned the road, his eyes paying attention to every last detail. Everything looked normal. Suddenly, he spotted a man running, holding what appeared to be a red purse.
"There you are!". Jungkook wasted no time, and sped off, chasing after him.
The man looked behind him, and his eyes widened with fear. Jungkook quickened his pace. He was by no means letting this one go.
The man, considerably older than Jungkook, started to run out of breath. He suddenly came to a stop in front of an elderly woman, and Jungkook immediately tackled him to the ground.
The woman jumped back, unsure of what had just happened in front of her. Her eyes fixated on the purse.
"My bag!", she yelled, "He's got my bag!".
Jungkook lay on top of the man, perplexed, before immediately jumping up.
"This...this is yours?", he asked, pointing to the purse. The woman nodded, her face slightly pale.
The man had meanwhile gotten back on his feet, and now cautiously held out his carrying hand to the woman.
"I-I saw someone take it...", he breathed, still not fully recovered, "...I grabbed...it to r-return it to...y-you".
The woman slowly took the purse, and bowed in thanks to the man.
They both turned to Jungkook, who was now completely red.
Before he could say anything, he heard his partner, Jimin, over the walkie-talkie.
"Jungkook? Are you there? Chief Min says it's time to go back. He has another mission for us".
Jungkook looked back up at the two. "I'm very sorry for...for the misunderstanding", he said, quickly bowing multiple times.
Then he turned and ran off, back to the car parked down the street.
He opened the car door, having to catch his breath for the second time. Jimin noticed how disheveled Jungkook was, and gave him a questioning look.
"Did you catch him?", he asked.
"Not quite...", answered Jungkook.
Jimin and Jungkook entered the station, and headed towards their boss' office, where a conversation was already taking place. The two stood outside the door, listening in, and waiting their turn.
"You're trying to tell me you've seen him?". The voice of chief Min Yoongi, and he didn't sound very pleased.
"N-no", answered a much softer voice, which the boys didn't recognise. "I've only heard of him, but...I wanted to ask you why his file is so big! You must have done a lot of work on-"
"That's enough, Yeonjun", came the chief's voice again. "That file is closed, and there's nothing more to say about it".
Jimin and Jungkook looked at each other in surprise. "Do you think it's about...", said Jimin, unable to form the last word.
"V", finished Jungkook, swallowing hard.
The two boys knew, no one at the station had brought up this case in seven months.
"Chief Min's been trying to recover from that case for almost a year", said Jimin, now starting to feel concern for both his boss and the boy inside, who had no idea what he was doing.
"I hope this doesn't drive him insane again...", said Jungkook.
He thought back to the time when his boss' door was always closed, only letting in the officers who had found new leads. That didn't happen very often.
V had never been caught, never been seen. The only thing keeping his work separate from the other criminals in the town was his signature, carved in somewhere at the scene of the crime. Every location was a jewellery store of some sort.
Now, after V's sudden disappearance, Min Yoongi hadn't been able to let it go.
After all, he'd put so much time and effort into the case, only to fail again and again.
The two cops heard the door open. The new officer, whose name was apparently Yeonjun, stumbled outside, and looked up at the boys with an expression of urgency.
"Is he always like that?", asked the boy.
The two nodded.
"I wouldn't mention that case anymore if I were you", said Jimin.
"I won't", replied Yeonjun, and walked away, muttering to himself.
As the two boys entered the office, they saw their boss sitting in his chair, a hand over his face. "Y-you wanted to see us...sir?", asked Jimin, not sure whether to be concerned.
The elder looked up at the two, preparing to speak, but he cut himself off. "I-...Jungkook, what happened to you?".
Jungkook swallowed before explaining everything.
Yoongi opened his mouth, closed it again and then opened it one more time before saying, "I think you're well aware that I'm not even remotely surprised".
Jungkook looked down at his shoes, which were covered in dirt from the previous event.
"Well, with that out of the way", continued the chief, "I have a new assignment for you. We received a call from the Parrapio Mall downtown".
"Oh, I love malls!", exclaimed Jimin, his eyes lighting up.
A moment of silence passed.
"Jimin, if you're quite finished", replied Yoongi, giving the boy a glare. Jimin's smile disappeared as he quickly apologised.
"As I was saying", the elder continued, "We received a call about two burglars regularly targeting the mall. Officer Kim Namjoon, the man tasked with the night shifts, has requested your assistance".
Jimin and Jungkook looked at each other and then at the chief. "Ou-our assistance?", they asked in unison.
"Yes, your assistance", replied Yoongi. "If that's no problem...?".
"Oh, no problem at all", answered Jimin. Jungkook shook his head and offered a small smile.
"Excellent", Min replied, half sighing through his words. "The three of you will meet at the mall, and decide who's responsible for each floor. Officer Kim sure can't manage it all alone".
The two boys nodded.
"That will be all". "And Jimin?", called Yoongi, as the boys turned to leave. Jimin turned his head back around. "Yes, sir?". "Try not to break anything this time".
Jimin turned red, "Y-you mean...".
The elder smirked. "They tell me everything, Jimin...everything".
