Bio: Lie Ren, more commonly referred to by his surname Ren, comes from a family who lived in the village, Kuroyuri. A Nuckelavee attacked the village and killed everyone, including his parents. Ren became an orphan, like his close friend Nora Valkyrie, whom he had met in Kuroyuri shortly before the attack.
They each promised to look after and protect each other and the two later trained to become Huntsmen together. After years of training and honing their skills, the two applied for Beacon Academy and were accepted.
During Initiation, while wandering alone in the Emerald Forest, Ren is attacked by a large King Taijitu. At first, he fights with only his bare hands, but he finally defeats it by using his Aura and StormFlower. After that, he partners up with Nora and Ren discovered a living rock by the name of Geodude. The two go on to find the Forest Temple, with Nora riding on an Ursa and he and his partner chasing after her.
He watches the mysterious woman Cynthia fight off a Deathstalker with the help of her creature, Garchomp. The Mach Shark uses Giga Impact to send the scorpion Grimm crashing deeper into the forest. They leave the area, the Deathstalker coming back and he, along with Geodude, Growlithe, Pyrrha, Blake, Purrloin, fight it off.
Geodude and Ren were attacking the base of the stinger, with Ren being tossed off and unable to continue. Thankfully, Geodude carries him off to safety. Geodude continued to fight, throwing balls of sand at it's eyes. Once they finally killed it, they proceed to the checkpoint.
After the Initiation Ceremony, Cynthia explains to Team RWBY and JNPR where she came from and what Pokémon were. Geodude became a loyal and reliable partner to Ren, with Ren feeling the same. The two would go on to better themselves and work to protect the innocent.
