Oh Boy

Winter Bear

Taehyung and Joohyun were on their way back to his old neighborhood. They bought a box of fruit for the old man with the litchi tree, Mr Son, as a peace offering and hoped he would forgive them instead of chasing them again.

"Have you ever spoken to the ahjussi?" asked Joohyun.

"No, I don't know much about him." Taehyung said when the uber stopped in the road of the convenience store.

The couple got out with Taehyung holding the box of fruit that they brought at a local market, near their apartment complex. Taehyung felt nervous and afraid that the old man would chase them away, but Joohyun squeezed his arm in reassurance as they now stood in front of his house.

"If he chases us away with that stick again, I'm dropping this box right here."

"Gwaenchana~ I'm here. He can't chase away this cute face, right?"

"Let's hope my baetokki (bunny) is right!"

Joohyun pressed the buzzer and a few seconds later an older woman came to the gate.

"Omona... We've got youngsters at our house! How can I help you?" said the friendly looking woman as she held knitting tools in her hands.

"Ah nehh... Good evening ahjumma. We're hoping to see Mr Son that lives here, he always reads a book?" said Taehyung.

"Ahh that would be my husband, Gongchan. Please, come in."

The couple walked in the yard and saw the old man reading his book before he looked up and saw the couple from the previous night who stole his litchis.

"Ahh my very good friends from the other day! I see you came for your punishment." The man beamed grabbing his stick.

"You see, I'm out of here!" Taehyung wanted to turn around and the older woman looked in confusion.

"Anieyo! Taehyung-ah, come back here. Uhm... We're actually here to make a peace offering. You see ahjussi and ahjumma, we felt very spontaneous that day... That day we stole the litchis from your tree..." Taehyung moved behind Joohyun as she continued.

"We're really sorry for causing any inconvenience. It was wrong to steal... But we hope you can forgive us? We bought you lots of fruit and snacks that is in this box. If... If you do not accept it, we will understand."

The four people stood in silence for a while until the older man walked forward, giving both Joohyun and Taehyung a fright.

"Hehehe the looks on your faces are really something to capture. Geurae, I forgive you. You know, out of all my years living here, you are the first people that came to apologize for stealing from my tree — And offer a peace offering. For that, I can't fault you." Taehyung handed over the box to the older man, and he and his wife looked inside seeing many fruits, vegetables and some healthy snacks.

"We're really sorry, again. Neomu gamsahamnida for your forgiveness." Taehyung placed his arm around Joohyun's shoulders and the pair bowed to the elder couple.

"This is a wonderful gift, thank you. By the way, I can't really blame you. I too had my days of being mischievous, both me and my wife for that matter hehe." The old man laughed looking at his wife who laughed too thinking back to their old days.

"Would you like to stay for a while? I made some red bean paste pastries earlier." The old lady suggested to Joohyun and Taehyung. They agreed and sat by the table talking to their new ahjussi friend.

"I can't believe how easy that peace offering was. I mean, I thought my legs would have scars by the end of the evening." Taehyung and Joohyun walked up Taehyung's previous apartment building's rooftop, and admired Seoul's city lights.

"I told you that it would be okay! I mean he and his wife are so cute, they remind me of my grandparents."

"Haha yeah mine too. I still can't believe he's so fit for his age! And he really was an athlete in his younger days, jinjjaaa..." Taehyung said as he and Joohyun laughed, reflecting back to earlier.

"I hope we can grow old and still be in love like them one day." Taehyung looked down at his noona who smiled back.

"Hmm did you just admit that you are in love with me Kim Taehyung?" Joohyun teased Taehyung who took a step closer to her.

"Hmm maybe... No, definitely. I definitely, really, truly... Love you Bae Joohyun. It may feel like it's too soon, but I've never been more certain about my feelings for anyone. I love you noona." Taehyung felt tears swell in his eyes and Joohyun too couldn't stop her tears from falling.

"I... I love you too Taehyung-ah. I've waited so long to find somebody who would love and accept me for who I am. And it's you. You're my special person." Taehyung wiped Joohyun's wet cheeks and kissed it, making her get shy.

Taehyung then gently pulled Joohyun closer and held her tightly as he looked down into her brown eyes admiring it under the moonlight.

"I could drown in your eyes, you know that." Taehyung confessed. "For now, close your eyes and let me kiss you — My winter bear."

Joohyun slowly closed her eyes and felt Taehyung's soft lips touch hers. Joohyun never thought in her 28 years of life, that a kiss could feel like a fire igniting in her, or like her soul leaving her body. This was what she's been waiting for — the right person and the right moment, and tonight she couldn't ask for anything more. She loved Taehyung and he loved her.

"Please don't tell any of my friends that I cried in front of you. I'm still a tough guy to them."

"Ya Taehyung-ah! Aish, why do you ruin the moment." Joohyun hit Taehyung's arm and he pulled her close to his chest instead, before pecking her on the lips.

"Mianhaeyoo... Come on let's go back home it's getting colder. We can finish what we started once we head back." Taehyung jokingly suggested and Joohyun nudged him in the ribs before he back hugged her.

"You pervert, I'll make you wait another week — No month! Before you can think of kissing me again." Joohyun felt Taehyung's hands clasping into hers as he placed his chin in the nook of her neck.

"I'll wait for as long as I can, but please — We sealed the deal tonight. I can't wait until another week, let alone a month jaebaaal." Taehyung whined making Joohyun giggle.

"Saranghaeyo Bae Joohyun noona~"

"Saranghaeyo, Kim Taehyung..."

*Cue winter bear song ending*
