*Third Person POV*
"Alright Nidorino, Double Kick!"
Nidorino leapt into the air, striking Starmie with two quick strikes as he leapt over the star shaped pokemon. He struck the ground and kept running, turning and preparing to attack again.
"Horn Attack!"
Nidorino's horn began to glow, as he charged towards Starmie. He easily reached and stabbed his opponent, sending Starmie tumbling backwards from the attack.
"Grrr..." Christine growled, looking on as her pokemon took attack after attack, "That's enough! Starmie, use Bubble Beam!"
Starmie responded immediately, leaping onto its feet(?) at its commander's order. The star on its back began to spin rapidly, as bubbles shot out of its gem at Nidorino. Nidorino ran to the left to avoid the attack, with struck the ground next to him.
Starmie didn't let up on the attack, shooting out another stream of bubbles as Nidorino attempted to avoid it. This time he was too slow, and the attack struck his side and sent him tumbling towards Y/n.
"We can't avoid its attacks forever," Y/n noted, watching as Nidorino tried to dodge, "If we keep going like this, Nidorino will be too tired to actually damage it..."
"He's gonna be all mine," Christine giggled, "That cutie won't even know what hit him."
Christine stood up straight and pointed forward, shouting.
"Alright Starmie, let's get done with this! Bubble Beam!"
"Nidorino, on my mark."
Nidorino looked back at his trainer, meeting his eyes and giving a nod. The two waited without moving, as Starmie's back star began to spin faster and faster. Bubbles shot out of Starmie, speeding towards Nidorino. Nidorino remained still as the attack came, holding for his trainer's command.
As the Bubble Beam got closer and closer to Nidorino, the arena seemed to go deadly quiet. There was nothing except for Y/n and Nidorino, as the world went black. The two were in perfect synchronicity, as the bubbles surged towards Nidorino.
"Now, Horn Attack!"
Nidorino charged forward, blasting through the bubbles that popped against him. He was completely focused, his horn glowing as he raced towards his opponent.
"What?! How is he still going!?"
"No way," Grady said, "Nidorino just powered through that attack!"
"He and Y/n seemed to be perfectly synced," Leaf cheered, "It was incredible!"
Their pokemon cheered along with them, even Cubone began to dance and cheer with them.
Togepi was being a stick in the mud.
Nidorino charged forward, accelerating as he ran at Starmie. Energy seemed to gather around him as he sprinted, his purple skin glowing as wind seemed to surround him in an aura. Starmie froze in fear, as the poison-type pokemon bore down on it.
Nidorino jumped into the air, stabbing Starmie straight in the gem. There was a moment of silence as they seemed to hang in the air, before Nidorino dropped back down on the other side of Starmie, all for paws landing on the ground.
Starmie fell to the ground, planting face first in the floor. It was sucked back into its pokeball, as Christine let out a chuckle.
"So... I've lost."
The crowd erupted in cheers, as Leaf, Grady, and their pokemon ran out onto the field and towards Y/n. Leaf and Cubone were the first to reach him, Leaf throwing her arms around him as Cubone ran up to Nidorino.
"That's was incredible Y/n!"
"L-Leaf!"
Y/n fell to the ground, immediately being met with Nidorino nudging his face. Cubone sat on Nidorino's back, cheering and dancing. Kabuto and Grady came up behind her, Grady giving an amused chuckle.
"Kab! Kabuto!"
"Kabuto's right," Grady noted, "That was a great battle Y/n."
"Thanks," Y/n said, slowly loosing his breath as Leaf squeezed him.
Leaf slowly released Y/n, allowing him to stand up. Though she still clung to his arm, Y/n looked around back and forth.
"Hey, where are Togepi and Bulbasaur?"
"Bulbasaur!"
The grass type pokemon was running towards them, holding a resisting and fighting Togepi in his vines. When he got close, he threw Togepi into the air, soaring towards Y/n.
Y/n caught his partner with open arms, holding him out slightly. He gave a smile which Togepi returned with a glare and arms crossed, turning away. Y/n just pulled him in close, engulfing him in a big hug. Togepi slowly relented, returning the hug with his stubby arms and giving a little smile.
"Aww, how cute."
The group turned to face the substitute gym leader who was walking at them, placing a hand on her hip.
"Well, cutie," She teased, "You won. Here's your badge."
She flicked the badge into the air and towards Y/n, who caught it in his palm.
"Come back later tonight," She purred, giving a wink, "For your reward, cutie.~"
"Umm, thanks..."
Y/n felt his face blush, as he looked over to Leaf who clung to his arm tightly. He turned back and gulped.
"But, I already have dinner plans for tonight," Y/n stammered, "Thanks anyway."
Christine let out a sigh, glaring at Leaf out of the corner of her eye.
"Lucky..." She stood straight up and dusted herself off, "Anyway, if there's no further business, I'll be going home to wallow in my sadness."
She turned and ran away, leaving the gym in a huff. Y/n let out a sigh and turned back to his group, Leaf still clinging to his arm.
"Alright girl, off!" Grady said, pushing her off Y/n's arm, "Now, don't you guys have a dinner or something?"
"Oh right!" Leaf said, "Meet me at the inn in a few hours."
She turned and began to run to the door, stopping for a moment and turning back around.
"And dress nice!"
She walked out the door, followed by Bulbasaur and Cubone, leaving Grady and Y/n alone. Y/n watched where she had been as Grady walked up behind him and placed a hand on his shoulder.
"Do you own any other clothes or is it just the jacket?"
"I don't even technically own these, they were a gift."
