Underwater

There's an ocean of silence separating us;

I'm drowning in it.

The uneasy stares shoving me under

Like the strongest wave.

The whispers drag me further away

From you than any current.

You float in a tube of glory on the peaceful surface.

I get anchored to the pitch-black bottom by dread.

Pressure forcing my lungs to empty

Filling with salty seawater.

Seaweed snakes around my limbs

Tethering me to the ocean floor.

Lungs spasming for air

Soundless screams ripping from my throat

Head pounding and fading to black.

But no one cares,

Not our friends,

Not my family,

Most certainly not you.

No matter how much I want you too.
