Johns POV:
You sat on a bench in the bowling alley, waiting for your friend to arrive. You check your phone, knee quickly bouncing as you impatiently wait for his arrival.
You put your phone back in your pocket when it suddenly goes off. Irritated that you have to pull it back out, you notice that Dave texted you.
"Hey, I'm just now leaving. Be there soon."
You roll your eyes. Dave's almost an hour late. You don't even know why you waited this long for that asshole. And he's just now texting you? Jerk.
After about a ten to fifteen minutes more of playing on your dying phone, you see Dave walk in, red jacket with a record on it, black skinny jeans, and red shoes. You run up to meet him, his mouth in a frown.
"Where were you?" You hiss. You can feel his eyes shoot daggers at you, and you shut up, the mood of the room seemingly changing. He exchanges his shoes with the employee from behind the counter and you go back to the lane you paid for and picked up a green eleven pound bowling ball.
Once Dave ties his shoes and chooses what his preferred ball weight was, he plainly demanded you to go first, despite his name being highlighted on the screen signaling Dave's move. You almost made a spare if it wasn't for that dumb split, and then it's Dave's turn. You cringe as his bowling ball loudly pounds the floor about halfway down the lane. It hits the pins with enormous strength and bounces against the back wall before it was collected to go again.
"Wow, Dave, what's got your sweet-undies in a twist?"
"Nothing, okay?" You give him a questioning look. "Okay, my bro just landed some shit on me, but it's fine."
You don't respond an try to shrug it off.
You kind of get the feeling that Dave would be too mad to even give you the simulation that you wanted for having a date with him. Shit.

After bowling, you wait outside with Dave for your dad to pick you up. You side-glance at him; you think he's still as pissed as he was before, but with him it's hard to tell. He always tries to keep a calm, cool, blank expression, so you can't read him as well as you would like to.
"Dave?"
"No."
You shuffle around a little. You feel stupid for ever thinking that this would go how you planned. It's not like you planned for him to fall in love with you, but you just really wanted another grand experience that you could've shared with him. But of course something had to off your plans and ruin everything!
You shiver a little. It's dark out tonight in mid December in Washington with a thin jacket, so 'little' is a useless word when describing your shivers. You glance at Dave again, who should be freezing with his Texan background, but it looks like he can hardly feel the cold through his sweatshirt and anger.
Eventually, looking at the ground gets too boring, so you begin to stare up at the sky. Most of the stars look nothing like constellations, just random dots thrown into a blanket of sky. All except Orion's Belt. That's the only thing that sticks out to you; three stars stuck together in the wide expansion of the universe. You hope they like each other.
"Can you see any constellations?" You ask Dave, once again trying to break the ice.
"Kind hard with these on." He points to his aviators that you once sent him for his birthday when he still lived in Texas.
Shit! Why the hell did it have to be like this?! You internally scream.
Your dad finally arrives, and you both get in the back seat. You answer your dads questions short and to the point. You don't feel like talking because you're so freaking agitated by Dave ignoring you. You get it, something happened! You know! But share it with the whole damn class, Strider!
Soon after leaving, Dave speaks up. "Hey, dadbert, I'm sorry to ask this, but can I sleep over at your house tonight?" He sounded polite and like he was cooling down.
Your jaw begins to drop, but you clench it shut. The hell, Strider?
Your dad thinks a moment. "I guess it's fine, but do you need anything from home?"
"Nope." Dave replies. You sit back in the corner of the backseat as your dad replies to him. You want to reimagine in your head the night you had planned.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
[Johns Plans]You wanted to have been there early, before he even arrived on time. Soon, he would come in and the two of you would start bowling. Since you actually suck at this, you figured Dave would help you, coach you, teach you via muscle memory.
Then, when you were waiting for your dad, some spark of a conversation would start. It didn't have to be romantic or anything, just a casual conversation. And then you would realize again how Dave only sees you as a friend, and you can go back to convincing everyone that you're not a homosexual, even though you can feel Rose getting suspicious of your feelings for that platinum blonde-haired boy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You put on a black ghost busters t-shirt for a night shirt, and a blue pair of pajama pants. Dave sits down on your bed. "Sorry for tonight." His words surprise you.
"Nah, it's fine, I get it." You reply. "But if you don't mind, please tell me what you were so upset about."
"My bro's getting married." He rubbed his hand through his bangs and rested this palm on his freckled cheeks.
"What? I didn't even know that Dirk was seeing someone!"
"Neither did I!" He yelled.
"Who to?" You ask after a moment to let your friend cool down.
"Jake."
"Jake English?"
"Yeah."
"Woe." You say, surprised that Dirk even swung that way. You have no idea what to say to that. "So, why are you mad?"
"He fucking hid this from me, that asshole! After we argued, he practically threw me out of the apartment to get the booty."
That went a little further into detail than you would have liked.
But anyway, good news. He didn't seem to have anything against his brother being homosexual. He didn't say anything bad about homosexuals. You might have a shot.
After a few more words on the conversation, things began to get back to normal for the two of you. To be honest, you're starting to get sick of all of the drama.
