Harper's outfit after the thrift^
Harper's POV

As I ran towards the beach I became painfully aware  of the heavy footfalls of work boots thundering behind me. Dogs barked and the people controlling them shouted, telling me to stop, to put my hands up. Of course I ignored them.

I ran faster than I ever had in my entire lifetime; my legs, stomach and back screaming.

Sprinting was something that came naturally to me but at that particular moment I felt as if I'd never run before. I turned onto the pier that led into the dark water. In the daytime, the scene looked unbelievably picturesque and the sea looked warm and inviting, however, at night the startling blue became a murky black that hid all sorts of creatures.

I could hear Sonny's men gaining on me, they hadn't seen me yet because I'd gotten a head start, but they knew the general direction I'd run in. If I slowed down, even for a second, their flashlights would catch my heels and I would be found.

The pier seemed to be long, I'd been running on it forever and I still hadn't reached the end, by now the soldiers must have reached the beginning of it. The  wood continued to creak beneath my feet, no matter how hard I tried to silence it. The noise could have given my position away.

When I finally got to the end of the it, I looked back. I saw dozens of men barreling towards me, I could see them due to the lights they carried, but luckily, they couldn't see me due to our distance from each other.

I lowered myself into the dark ocean, careful to not make so much as a splash while doing so. Dipping my head below the water and swimming underneath the pier, to hide away from them.

Taking a deep breath of air, I resurfaced underneath the wooden panels.  I could see the beams of light fitting through the cracks of pier, the boards creaking as a person came to stand right above me.
They all stood there for about a minute, probably searching the water for me, not knowing I was directly below them.

Finally I heard the first of the men turn to leave, I didn't move from my position though, I didn't know if they had all left or not. I don't know how long I stayed underneath that pier, but when I finally resurfaced some way down the beach (I had swam further away to be safer) none of Sonny's men remained. The only indication they were there was the deep boot imprints left in the sand.

I had to get going, Sonny wanted to kill my family, they may all be selfish and hate me by I couldn't just let them die.

After leaving the beach I'd come to a little town. A few people stopped and stared as I walked through the streets in my soaking wet clothes.

Luckily during my stay Sonny had given me a change of clothes otherwise I would have been walking through town in my black leather suit, which would have roused even more suspicion. Unfortunately i hadn't gotten it back though. Pity, it was one of my favorites.

I made my way towards a thrift shop on the corner of one of the streets. Collecting 'normal clothes'. (Above)

Once I'd changed I felt so much more comfortable, less people stared at me and water didn't trickle down my neck.

Usually when I walked through new places I took the place in, drinking in the atmosphere, but I couldn't. I needed to focus and make sure that Sonny stayed far far away from hurting my family.

First, I needed to find a gun.
