It was Monday and unlike the other Monday's, I didn't feel blue. After the night before, my body felt relaxed and almost rejuvenated. I wasn't old but sometimes your body gets so tired that it feels like that. The drive to work was rather cheerful as I blasted my music and sang along. I felt so good that not seeing Luke in the morning didn't bum me out. Maybe a little but I'm still here with a smile on my face."Hey Rosie," Linda greeted cautiously. "You seem happy today."
"I had a good night yesterday," I smiled. "Oh, I finally got the pizza from Olive Garden. It was good, cheese tasted different."
"Luke took you out?" Linda's eyes bugged out in surprise.
"No, I didn't even feel him come home yesterday," I bitterly jeered. "Erick took me."
Linda's face glowed in delight as she swiftly took the seat in front of the desk and sat down. "Erick? Tell me more."
"Just as friends Linds. We went to this event his friend was hosting. They didn't have really good food so we bounced because we were getting really hungry."
"You two are getting along very good and you're spending more time together."
I knew where she was going at but I simply shook my head. "Erick is a good friend. He's a different type of guy friend. He's pretty sensible and I like that."
"We do need more sensible men around." Linda hummed in agreement.
Mornings for me usually consisted of Linda reporting in and chatting. She would occasionally actually fill me in some work related things but mostly is was to talk.
"It's Adira," Linda said.
"Huh?"
"Adira is calling you."
I glanced at my phone beside the keyboard and finally noticed my buzzing phone with the screen displaying Adira's name.
"Hey, what's up?"
"Put it on speaker," Linda whispered.
Doing as told, I put the phone on speaker and placed the phone in between the two of us. "Linda is here. You're on speaker."
"Oh hey, Linds."
"Hey! Why are you calling so early?"
There was a silence from the other end of the line and for a moment I thought the call dropped but a shaky sigh discarded that idea quick.
"Rosalie, what I need to tell you is really important. I need to tell you now. It can't wait."
"You're scaring me," I said feeling oddly breathless. "What's going on?"
"I wanted to meet up in person but my schedule is super busy today but you're my best friend. I can't let this go on even for one more day."
Linda sucked her teeth. "C'mon Adira, say it. Rosalie has a meeting soon."
"What?" Rosalie mouthed.
Linda winked in responded and mouthed back: "lie."
"So I told you that while I worked here my mission was to see how much of a scumbag your husband is. I had to talk to the person who saw him everyday which was his secretary. We teamed up. She said she had seen him a lot with this other woman, a colleague. There was even one time when his secretary caught her too close to him." Adira took a deep breath in. "She said she was going to help me to find proof that Luke is cheating and Rosie... she found it."
"No..."
"Check your messages, I just sent you pictures."
Seeing as I froze up, Linda snatched my phone from the table and tapped away. Her eyes widen every time she swiped. Eventually her eyes met mine and I knew it was over.
