I walk the whole way home.

The entire way.

It's a wonder what you can accomplish when you're angry and trying to prove a point.

My calves are burning and my legs feel wobbly, but I open the house door with the separate key that I have and trudge upstairs.

I think I have a headache.

'Valerie! Hey, Valerie? Is that you?' my aunt shouts from downstairs.

'Yep!' I scream out,  just loud enough for Jo to hear. I hope she didn't hear the crack in my voice.

I shower and change into neon green shorts and a bright purple t-shirt. Wrapping my dark red hair in a small towel, I head downstairs to the lounge where Dylan's watching TV. His kindergarten is only from 9 o'clock to 1 o'clock.

'Dylan!' I say, and the excited smile that he looks at me with, makes my day.

I open my arms out wide and get down on my knees next to the sofa, and he jumps off the sofa and runs into my arms, squeezing me in a hug. I bury my face in his shoulder and let myself calm down. His hugs are the best, and I can always let anything out when I'm with him.

'I love you, Valerie!' Dylan whispers, and my heart swells in happiness. Tears prick at my eyes but I blink them away and take a deep breath.

'I love you too, kiddo. So, so much. You have no idea,' I say. We both pull away and I smile at the frown on his face.

'I'm a man,' he stomps his foot for emphasis, and I giggle, kissing all over his face.

'My turn! My turn!' he laughs and kisses all over my face just like I did to him.

I laugh and we both smile at each other.

From the corner of my eyes, I can see Jo leaning against the doorframe. I turn to look at her, letting Dylan get back to his TV.

'Bad day today?' she asks with a knowing smile.

I smile back and she understands.

'How about we cook dinner?' I ask, and she seems excited all of a sudden.

'Alright, lets go. What should we cook?' she asks.

'Lets see what the kitchen's got.'

I teach her how to cook spaghetti meatballs, and she gets a call from the principal saying I'm missing from the last class of the day. Jo tells her that I'm sick, and the principal lets it go. They're very strict, and call your parents instantly if there's a problem.

When Julian gets home, I lock myself in my room, do some homework on my laptop, and then place the books I got today on my bookshelf, picking one to read.

Julian told me this morning that Alaric's coming later tonight to play the online game with him, and I plan to be awake. Because god knows what he's plotting, and I don't want to be catching z's while he's going through with my murder.

Dinner is in silence, and when I talk about getting a job again, saying please and convincing Jo and my uncle, he finally says he'll look into it.

'I think we did a pretty good job,' Jo says to me as we wash the dishes together. I smile at her and nod.

'We should definitely do it more often.'
