We kiss each other a few times. Soft, gentle, promising kisses. Later, we lie down together on the blanket, silently gazing at the stars. There are no words spoken because when he holds my hand, he doesn't need to say anything.
And when I lightly squeeze his hand in response, the soft sigh that falls from his lips is enough to elate me.
We talk all night about nothing and everything. About what we like and what we don't like. I'm not surprised to find Alaric's list of not-like much, much longer than his list of like. Eventually, we fall asleep in the cold, wrapped in blankets from Alaric's car.
On the drive home in the morning, he tells me about his friends. How they've known each other since birth. How they've helped each other whenever mishap arises.
I tread carefully to my room when I return because it's extremely early and everyone's asleep. After I change into my pyjamas, I stare at the dim ceiling of my room with a stupid grin on my face, reminiscing every sweet moment I've had with Alaric. I close my eyes as the first rays of sunlight start to shine through my thin curtains.
The happy glint in his dark sapphire eyes shimmers beneath my eyelids as I sleep.

The rest of the weekend is filled with Christmas preparations. Only a few people have started decorating the exteriors of their houses on our street, and ours is one of them. Jo, Dylan and I especially love the lights, but Julian and Roland aren't in as high spirits like us.
There's a Christmas ball coming up at school on Christmas Eve night, similar to the Halloween one, but with a different theme. The monthly showcase passed but I didn't go this time.
I'm in the middle of a surprisingly interesting historical passage that I have to know for the upcoming exams, sitting in the library with a few people around, when the seat in front of me gets taken, causing a shadow to loom above my book.
I look up.
Alaric.
I smile at his bored expression and put my elbow on the desk, resting my hand on my palm.
'Hey there mister. What's with the face?' I ask him. He narrows his eyes at me for a second and then shrugs.
'I'm bored, Valerie.'
'So?'
'So what do I do?'
I sigh. 'What do you normally do?'
He thinks for a moment before saying 'Do you want the honest answer or the good answer?'
'Honest,' I say, amused.
'I think about you,' he whispers, looking down at his lap, avoiding eye contact. I push away the butterflies and laugh.
'And what's the good answer?' I ask. He looks at me with the smallest of smiles.
'I study.'
'Well, how about you be good and study then?' I ask. Madison and Lola have disappeared, and I have my suspicions, because they were being much more affectionate with eachother than usual, this morning. Marcus isn't at school.
