I wake up in the nurses room.

How do I know this? The antiseptic smell, and the fact that almost everything is blindingly white. I feel well-rested, but then I suddenly panic.

The pang of pain in my lower back reminds me of the time-of-the-month, and that I need to use the bathroom. Snapping my eyes open, I jump off the bed, ignoring the strain in my muscles, and almost fall back.

Marcus is lying above a girl on the bed next to me, kissing her like his life depends on it. She moans and raises her pelvis, and then he groans, moving down to kissing her neck. His hands slide under her school shirt and get higher and higher.

His girlfriend?

'Uh,' I say awkwardly, not knowing what to do. I should've just walked away, but it's too late now.

Slowly, taking his time, Marcus lifts his head from the girls neck and looks at me with hooded eyes.

'Sup?' his voice is husky with need.

I smile, trying to think of something to say.

'So, she's your girlfriend?' I ask.

They both look at each other for a moment, then get off the bed, fixing their uniforms. Both of their purple blazers are on the floor and the top few buttons of the girls shirt are unbuttoned.

'Nah. Anyways. How're you feeling?' he says, shoving his hands in his pockets, winking at the girl as she walks out of the large room.

I smile wider and nod.

'Great thanks.'

He shakes his head and looks serious all of a sudden.

'Aldrois must've really messed you up if you fainted just 'cos I asked you to be my friend,' he sighs. 'But really, it's fine. I want you as a friend.'

'Thank you. For giving me a chance,' I nod.

He laughs. 'Are you kidding me?! Relax, babe! Let's go have some ice cream after school.'

My heart expands with happiness at the prospect of going out with a friend after school.

The nurse walks in and Marcus leaves, saying something about having to get to class.

The rest of the day, I don't see Alaric anywhere, and Clementine avoids me like the plague. People have now named me a freak, not that I care.

Marcus and I go to a shop near the QUEEN OF TARTS, and I tell him about Bree and Christian. We talk about his apartment and how he normally has girls over every night. He tells me that I'm welcome there any time and he'll send the girls away for me.

When I get home, Jo and Roland are squeaking with excitement because I finally went out with a friend. Julian probably told them.

I help Dylan with his homework and make dinner, not feeling tired at all. I tell Dylan about Marcus and laugh when he says "markers" instead.

The next day, Alaric seems to be in an even sour mood than usual. He shouts at the teacher for taking too long to solve the equation on the board and I even see him punch a locker when Marcus offers me a packet of chips.

During break, Marcus sits with a group of girls because I want to read a book to calm my brain after the serious work during class. I even get two tubs of yogurt and a cheese and tomato sandwich. When it's class time, I make to walk out of the cafeteria and almost fall as someone bumps into me.
