Take Me Back // Luke Hemmings

☠ Luke's POV ☠

I'm suddenly horrified of Katie and Calum. I'm horrified of Homecoming now. It's a scary world I've just walked into.

Calum leaves us both, but Katie stays. She watches me with focus as I drag out my books for class. It's sort of awkward, and I'm not sure how to break it.

"So.. How was your morning?" She asks me, ending the sentence with a smile. She looks different, I notice. She looks like she's taken extra time into her appearance today. The extra mascara painted on her eyelashes couldn't have been for me, I'm sure.

"It was pretty good. How was yours?" I tried to look like I was listening to her explain something about how her bus driver needed to learn how to drive, but I couldn't pay attention to her words. Just her. Today she wore a plain white top with a silk animal print scarf, and tight Hollister jeans with gray Chuck Taylor's.

"Do you ride the bus?" She asked me at the end of her answer. I shook my head, and almost told her my older sister drops me off. I might have just shot myself if I'd told her that; it was the last thing I wanted her to know. "Oh." Was all she said.

The bell for first period rang, ending the awkwardly nice conversation. Katie's cheeks became strawberry red, and she looked sad she had to leave. Her first hour must really suck, I decided was the reason for her sadness.

"Bye Luke.. I'll see you at lunch maybe with Char and Calum?" She smiled hopefully. I smiled back, this time deciding to use words.

"Yeah that'd be great." I told her. A flicker of shock crossed over her expression. She looked genuinely happy, and I couldn't help but think this joy was all for me.
