I leave Luke awkwardly tending to grab books from his locker. A nervous knot ties in my stomach, since Luke agreed to have lunch with us. I already know I'm going to make a fool of myself, and I can't help but want to take it back.
Lunch period comes around way too soon, and I've already been harshly chastised for not paying attention in two classes. I've been thinking of things to say, and what to eat so I don't look like a pig. I feel self-conscious of eating in front of people. It's like they're all watching me, and only me.
Charlotte finds me after my English class, dragging Calum like a dog through the crowded hall. She's wearing a floral print sundress, and she looks stunning. She has a giant smile on her face, and Calum looks shy this time.
"Katie! I can't believe you asked him to sit with us!" She screamed to me. She had to be at least 15 feet away from me, and I really didn't want her mentioning my problem. She shoved a senior boy out of her way, and ran up to me. She let go of Calum and hugged me incredibly tight. I hugged her back, and I seen Calum smile at the close friendship we had. He had the same kind with Luke; Charlotte said they'd been best friends since second grade.
"Are you guys ready to go now?" Calum asked as I threw the last book into my bag. I slammed my locker, walking alongside Calum to the cafeteria. He must have sensed how nervous I was, because he patted my hand awkwardly.
"It's really okay. Luke is really awkward and shy, he's not the big people person they say he is. Just be yourself, and he'll like you. Trust me, I know him." Calum gave me a reassuring smile, and I couldn't help but like him more. He was helping me, and I felt he was going to be one of my greatest friends.
We walked into the large cafeteria, welcomed by a screamed curse, and the sound of a bone breaking. A boy with bright pink hair stood with his fists in the air, another boy with flat hair and pretty eyes stood in front of him, obviously trying to calm him down. He had a thick accent, and every time he spoke he had huge dimples.
At the other side of the boy, was Luke. His nose was bloody, and his Greenday shirt was almost torn in half.
"You guys stop. You're causing a scene!" The boy yelled at the boy with pink hair. He laughed at him, and shoved him out of the way.
"Move Ashton. Let me show this prick who's boss."
