I go to school two days later, ready to face the blood covered cafeteria. Mom reassures me nothing bad is going to happen, but I can't believe her. Not yet. Not ever.

This is the day Luke tells me he's coming back to school, he also says he has a broken nose, and has to get his mouth cleaned and teeth pulled. I feel incredibly bad for him, especially since he didn't deserve what happened to him.

I see Luke in the hall with Calum as soon as I walk in. His nose has a giant bandage on it, and his pretty straight smile is gone. Half of his teeth are gone, and a huge blue bruise coverse his lower lip. His lip ring is also gone. He laughes at something Calum says, and then he spots me. His blue eyes fill with an emotion that I can't read, and it looks a bit like logning.

"Hey, Katie! Why weren't here yesterday or the day before?" Calum askes as he leans against the plaster wall. His black Vans are low on his ankles, and the black skinny jeans he wore are about five inches from the top of the shoe. Luke smiles when I look over at him, and it seems genuine. Like he's happy to see me.

"I was really sick..." I say hoping I pull off as truthful. Calum nods, looking from me to Luke. I shift my bag onto my shoulder awkwardly, breaking the strange silence even though kids are screaming down the hall. I have a feeling they know where I've been and why, but they don't confront me about it.

"How've you been doing, Luke? Did that kid get suspended?" I asked Luke, reffering to pink haired boy who caused this mess. He looks at the floor, and his cheeks turn to a rosy pink shade. Calum watches as Luke shakes his head.

"I've been terrible. My face hurts, I can't eat, I can barely breath through my nose." He says it with a hint of anger in his voice, and it seems like it's shot at me. How is any of this my fault? I want to tell him that, but I jjust can't seem to form the question with my mouth.

"What the hell man? It's not her fault that you got your ass beat. She's the one who brought you to thw hospital. Give her some respect." Calum put in, and a blaze of anger and hate flashed through Luke's eyes.

"It's not my fault she asks such stupid questions either." He spats back, and I instantly regret saying anything. I feel something cold slide down my face, and black liquid drips down on my hand. I now realise that I'm crying. Anger is coming off him in waves, and I realize that this Isn't the Luke Hemmings I once liked. This was someone else.

"Well, I'm sorry I asked. I'm sorry I bothered to know if you were doing better." I tell him in a harsh and quiet voice. My voice is so small I wonder if he'd even heard me. But the look on his face tells me he did, and he couldn't care much more than he would care about a rock. Calum's eyes cloud with anger and sadness as he watches another black tear streak down my face. I probably look like trash, but I don't care. Calum attempts to say something meaningful, but it's too late. I'm running down the hall, a boy and a monster left behind me.
