Calum left my house at 5:30. It's 7:00 now. He hasn't called me, texted me or anything. I sit into my couch, trying to pay attention to the news I'm watching to keep my mind off of the ball of anxiety in my stomach. The door to my house opens suddenly, but I don't hear it shut.
I walk into the kitchen to see who it is, and it's Calum. He's covered in blood or ketchup, and his shirt is soaking wet. He looks like a sick dog, and he doesn't see me. I hear him whimper, and then he pulls out a pen. He inspects it curiously, then stabs it into his left hand. A screech leaves him and I'm unable to move. What is he doing?
"What the hell!" I say to him, coming from behind, he trys to hide his hand but it doesn't work when he bangs the pen into a cupboard and digs it deeper into his hand. He looks at me, like actually looks at me. There's so much sorrow and anger and horror in his eyes they turn his brown eyes black. He looks like a monster who's just ate a meal of a sweet teenage girl.
"I'm sorry." He says. I know something terrible happened. I'd sent him to let Katie watch a video of me on his phone, and ask for her forgiveness. He wouldn't act this way if she had only said no. Something wasn't right.
"What's wrong? What happened to you?" I ask gesturing to his bloody clothes. His gaze flickers somewhere else, but then he's back to staring at me. He shakes his head, and his eyes glaze over. Tears stream down his face and you can barely see them from how pale he's become. His dark Kiwi skin tone has turned to a ghostly white shade.
"Katie's at the hospital." A wail escapes him at the word him at the word hospital. I feel horror wash over me, and panic takes control. I want to strangle Calum until he tells me he's lying. But I know he's not; he woudln't lie abput something so serious.
"Why Calum.." I felt into the doorframe, holding on tightly so I wouldn't pass out. Tears streamed down my face, and it felt like lava brushing my skin. Calum's looks down at the pen in his hand.
"She tried to kill herself." He admits in a hoarse croak. He sounds hurt, like it was the girl he loved. A wave of sickness washes over me. This isn't happening, no. No. No. I tell myself over and over again, but it's not becoming a lie. The feeling that comes over is cold, and I need to throw up.
I hurl on the floor, not being able to move to the bathroom. Calum doesn't do anything. I just looks straight out the window to the kitchen. The pen is still sticking out of his hand, but I'm pretty sure that he can't feel it anymore. Just like I can't feel the wood beneath my knees.
"You're joking.." I said to the floor. Calum answered me with a sob. I took it as a yes. No, my mind still said but my heart beat faster. "Please take me to her." I choke out. I still can't fathom that I'm able to talk. Calum helps me up from the ground, then takes me outside. We get into his Toyota and he starts driving with the pen still lodged in his hand.
