I sat down on top of the school roof watching the fireworks display in Tokyo Bay. Sitting next to me was Kureha, my girlfriend. I've asked her parents if it was okay for her to be in a relationship when I visited during Christmas.
"Yeah, you can be her boyfriend. She's just on a very loose leash right now," her father explained.
"Kaito," Kureha asked.
I glanced back at Kureha. She stood there holding a blanket over her shoulders.
"Yeah? Did you want something?" I asked her.
"I want to go with you," she said.
"What do you mean?"
"To America."
I was surprised by her request.
"You sure?" I asked, "You're going to be a long way from home."
"Even if I'm going to the opposite world, I'll feel at home with you," she responded.
So apparently after pissing her off in GGO and other events, she's willing to go with me into the unknown.
"If you do plan to go with me, you have to prepare yourself," I instructed her.
She walked over and stood right next to me. I gazed downward and looked at her. Her face was dimly lit by the fireworks in the sky.
"I'll be fine. You don't have to worry about me," she comforted me.
The fireworks were still booming in the sky. Flashes of color illuminated the dark roof. I walked over to the door to leave the roof. I reached for the doorknob when I felt a pull on my shoulder. I turned around and I felt something on my lips.
"What the...?" I thought.
I looked down and I saw Kureha standing there with her lips interlocked with mine. She pushed back and I stood there in shock.
"I-I know that was a surprise but..." Kureha stated.
I smiled and said:
"It's okay...It's okay."
I walked down the stairs and back to the dorm room. I sat down on my bed and thought about this morning.
"Does she actually like me?" I asked myself.
I laid down on my bed and turned off my light. I stared at the light dancing on the roof of the room.
"Hey! Let go of me!" someone demanded.
I stood up from my bed and ambled out into the hallway. I saw Kureha struggling with another male student. I reached over and separated them. Kureha ran behind my shoulder.
"You're drunk. Just go back to your room," I advised.
"WhY yOu StOppIng Me," the student drawled, "sHe iS jUSt Fine."
"Come on, just go back to your room."
The drunk student started to stumble to me. I realized that he was going to try and punch me.
"Kureha, get out of here," I muttered.
The student lunged forward and threw a punch. I ducked under the punch and turned around to face him. The student faced me and stared at me.
"So, ThAt's hOw wEll Do tHIs," he goaded.
He reached over and lifted his right hand above his head. I raised my left hand to catch his punch but his left hand punched me in the gut. I hunched over and reeled from the pain.
"Kaito," Kureha warned.
I looked up and I saw the student reeling for another punch. I reached over and caught his fist. I shoved him in the chest, causing him to lose his balance. At that point, he knew the fight wasn't going in his favor and he decided to give up.
"You'Re nOt WorTh mY tImE," he coughed.
The student walked away from me and I gazed back at Kureha. She was pretty scared about the recent events. I paced over to the dorm room and back to my bed. I sat there looking at my bruised hands. I heard the bed creak next to me. I looked to my right and I saw Kureha sitting there.
"I'm sorry, he just asked for directions," she explained.
I lied down on my bed. Kureha lied down next to me.
"You sure?" I asked.
"I just don't feel safe," she responded.
Kureha placed her head on my chest. She fell asleep after a couple of minutes. I couldn't believe what has happened in the past hour. I fell asleep after a couple of minutes of contemplating life.
