Chapter 16

Nicky dropped his phone on the ground.

“He hanged up on me.” He whispered.

“Shane hanged up on me!” Nicky shouted and sat on the pavement.

“Nicky” Julie sat beside him.

“It hurts, Julie, how he picked Gillian over me!, How he picked his dishonest lover over his truthful bestfriend!” Nicky yelled and tears fill his eyes.

“I know how it feels, I know how it hurts, getting picked over someone.” Julie told him.

“How do you know?”

“Do you want me to tell my story?”

“Yeah, I’m interested.”

“Okay, back in the years, me and my brother would like to put a prank on each other, we were so good at it, really good at it. One time, he went home and he looked happy, happier than ever, like a miracle happened or what. I asked him why, and he told me that he put a prank on the bad boys and it totally worked out. I asked him if they saw his face, he didn’t answer, he just told me that he’s happy it worked out. The bad boys were like a gang, they bully children and teenagers who stand on their way. Me and my brother think it was too much, like someone should stop them. Then that day came. Weeks past, he had a girlfriend, the bad boys went out of sight, and he became like a hero. Then one night, I was walking on the street when they faced me, asking for my brother, I told them I don’t know, they won’t believe me, to be honest, I really don’t know where he is that night. Then I ran, I shout for help, and I dialed my brother’s number, I said I need his help because the bad boys are chasing me, he told me that he’s having a date with his girlfriend and I should stop making pranks like that because it’s disturbing them. He hanged up on me and the bad boys beat me down.” Julie eyes were filled with tears.

“I’m sorry about that.”

“It’s not your fault, Nicky”

“I know, do you still hate him, your brother?”

“No, he learned his mistake, and he’s a great man now, I’m telling you, Ethan’s the best brother ever.”

“Ethan?”

“Yes, Ethan’s his name.” Julie said.

“Wait, you remember on your birthday, when that Ethan called you on your phone?”

“Oh yes, that’s the time he came here in London, I was so surprised by him.” Julie replied.

“Shane was very curious about that Ethan, that day, like he thought he was your boyfriend.”

“Really, I don’t have a boyfriend.” Julie laughed.

“Anyway, I think I couldn’t go to Shane’s party tomorrow night.” Nicky sighed.

“What?, Nicky, Why?

“I can’t face him, I’m not ready yet.”

“C’mon, he needs us there, he needs you there.” Julie’s forcing him to go.

“I don’t know, I’ll think about it.”

“Nicky, you don’t want to miss your best friend’s birthday, do you?”

Nicky didn’t respond.

“Nicky, you forced me to come at Westlife’s Anniversary yesterday, now I’ll do the same, I’m not leaving here until you tell me your coming.” Julie insisted.

“I have to go home, I’m too depressed, and I need rest.”

“Nicky, c’mon, were in this together, were going to tell Shane that his girlfriend is cheating on him.”

“Great plan Julie, you’re on your own.” Nicky said then he jumps to his car and drove home.

Julie was about to ride on her car when he notices Nicky’s phone on the ground. She took it with her and when she arrived at her apartment, she get Shane’s phone number. She dialed the number with her phone.

“Hello, Shane?”

“Yes, who is this?”

“This is Julie, your songwriter.”

“What’s the matter, Julie?”

“Shane, where are you right now?”

“I’m driving on my way to our house.” Shane answered.

“Great, could you come over in my apartment, right now?”

“Why, what’s wrong?”

“Come over here, and I’ll tell you what’s wrong.” Julie replied.

“Alright, I’ll be there in a few minutes.”

Minutes later, someone knocked on her door. It was Shane and she let him in.

“What’s the matter, Julie?” Shane asked. Julie asked him to sit on the sofa. He sat down and so does Julie.

“Do you know who owns this?” Julie showed him Nicky’s phone.

“That’s Nicky’s phone.” He tried to grab it but Julie moves it away.

“I know, Nicky dropped it on the ground by the time you hanged up on him, because you picked your girlfriend over your best friend.”

“Julie, he’s insane, he just warned me that my girlfriend- Gillian, is cheating on me.” Shane said.

“And you didn’t believe him?”

“Why would I believe him?”

“Because he’s your best friend.” Julie whispered.

“Let’s put in this situation Julie, for example I’m your boyfriend, and Nicky’s your best friend, and were having a date, a very special date, when suddenly, your best friend- Nicky, called you and say that I’m  cheating on you.” Shane said.

“Well, I’ll go talk to my best friend, to ask him what’s wrong and to clarify what he’s saying. Then I’ll take my actions when I know what the truth is.” Julie smiled.

“It’s not that easy, Julie, what if he’s just kidding me or pranking me?”

“What if he’s not?, and what if I tell you Shane, that I was with Nicky by the time we saw-“ Julie stopped when Shane interrupted her.

“You were with Nicky?” Shane asked.

“Yes, we went to the mall to buy some dress for tomorrow night.” Julie answered.

“Is there something going on between you and Nicky?” Shane asked.

“What? No! Were just friends!” Julie screamed.

“Alright, I’m just asking.”

“Good, now you know.” Julie sighed.

“Anyway, why are you always with Nicky?” Shane asked.

“Because, he knows something about me.” Julie answered.

“He knows what?”

“That..”

“That what,  Julie?

“That I like you” Julie sighed.
