Gaunt Galaxy / Blue Angel: Book 1

Seraphim Station

As we made our last jump to Seraphim Station, we had all gone invisible and jumped a good distance away to make sure we did not run into any traffic. From what I had found out from the guard's mind, it was a busy station, mostly from the poacher's group. It was basically hidden from view and sensors by a dust cloud. There was a small sun with just three planets and the station was in orbit around the third planet. The first two planets were to close to the white dwarf sun to be usable, but the third made for a good place to have a hidden base. The station was just the "lookout" for the hidden base. Anyone who happened to visit the station would not have seen the base below as it was inside natural caves within the rocky dead surface of the planet. We knew it was there because the girls sensors had picked up a massive psi wave generator just beneath the planets surface. It seemed to be some sort of secret facility, the guard had not even known of it's existence.

We now had a problem, this facility was well guarded. If Garceara was in the secret base we were going to have fight our way in. Even though the three Ovarunt and the Ghost made a very formidable fighting team we did not want to go in with guns blazing and risk hurting Garceara or any other beings that might be held there. Also we were not hardened war veterans that had no problem mowing down the enemy. Life is precious to us, all life, even the enemy's! There had to be a way to do this with the least amount of blood shed. We had already found out that the poachers would shoot first and ask questions later so trying to talk to them was out. Somehow we would have to get inside the station and possibly the base!

As we discussed several options a ship jumped into the system and headed straight for the base, it bypassed the station altogether. There was a short conversation between the station and the ship and latter began it's decent toward the small planet. It was one of the smaller capture ships, it is possible that it could hold a small Ovarunt, but we figured it was some sort of supply vessel. The ship neared the face of what appeared to be the vertical rock wall of a mountain and looked as if it were going to crash into the wall. When the ship made "contact" with the rock nothing happened, it went right through the wall and disappeared!! What?? Something strange is going on here, how did that just happen? The girls then began to run a very detailed scan of the station and the base. The station was just that a standard space station that had an added psi wave generator. Standard shielding and weapons with the necessary docking facilities.

The base, was a completely different story! From space it looked as if there were mountains, cliffs and large boulders, and a standard planetary scan showed the same. When the girls ran a frequency resonance stability scan it showed that a large area of the mountains were actually a hologram, a very large and complex hologram! A hologram that would take several large holographic generators and an enormous amount of power to keep in place, the power that could easily be provided by an adult Ovarunt!! The closer we got to the base the easier it was to see through the mirage. Down at ground level it looked as if the base had a funny looking dome over it, you could easily make out the buildings. It had been built in a valley between two large mountains, by adding the holographic "roof" it becomes almost invisible. There were several buildings that were large enough to house an adult Ovarunt or one of their catch ships. There were many anti-ship guns and missile launchers scattered throughout the base and on the actual mountains on either side. There was what appeared to be a barracks and a landing field with several Corvette class fighters. All in all they seemed very protective of this facility.

It would be suicide to try and take this place by ourselves, without just bombing it out of existence from space. We need to know what they are doing here, we need to find Garceara and any other beings that may be kept here! Patriarch Father and Matriarch Mother had stayed in space because of their size. The girls could still only get so close without giving us away, the cloak is good, but visual cloaking of an abject this large has odd effects up close!
