A/N: wasn't gonna do this scene originally but the song fit too well not to (for me at least) here you go. Song: What are we fighting for By The Federal Empire. I've been working on new covers for all my books so they match and look better. Apologies for the delay, i thought I would have more time this summer since I have no classes but my fam is on major home project 7 of the summer and that's eaten a lot of my time.
3rd person POV at Mount Justice:
The team stood in a line as Batman paced in front of them.
"What you did was stupid, reckless, went against direct orders and," Batman pauses to stand in front of the team and look them over, "you did nothing less than what was expected of you."
"What!?" The team yells. Wally stepped forward and addressed Batman. "Wait a second, I thought you wanted us to Catch Phantom and Mast for the GIW?" The other team members nod and look to Bats for the answer.
Batman sighs as he goes to the computer to bring some files up. "That was what the League was asked to do by the government. I've been looking into some of the lesser branches for a while now and the GIW was very suspicious but I wasn't able to go after them due to some recent debate about the power of the League with the government." Bats finished pulling up an article and showed it on the screen. It showed a meeting and the caption read Too much power? What about our Chosen Leaders?
"Because of this and the unrest it's caused the League has their hands tied for a bit in government matters and to avoid any issues I decided your team was best for the job." Bats almost smiled a bit as he turned back to the team, "After all, you always seem to try and look into things and do missions your own way if you see a problem. That's exactly what we needed, that way if people try and use this against the League we have proof it was against our knowledge and can't be used against us."
Artemis' brow furrowed, "But what about our team? Are we going to get into trouble?"
Batman looks at her, "If you would I would have found a different approach. Your team is still learning and you are all young, you don't have the same pressures on your team as the League does. It also helps that you aren't as well known."
Robin looked away from the article. "That all makes sense, but what are we going to do about Phantom? He said he would meet us if we got the League to publicly denounce the ecto acts."
Kaldur spoke up. "He and Mast are wary as it is, I feel that if we do not hold our part of the deal we will likely not see them for a long time, if at all."
Megan also stepped forward with a worried look on her face. "Phantom deserves our protection after everything he went through. I'm concerned that if we act too slow it will be too late to do just that."
Batman's face seemed to soften a bit as he thought of the ghost hero. "Don't worry, now that Robin has the files and we're aware of where we can meet Phantom the League can start working on the GIW because we have evidence that wasn't found by ourselves so it can't be seen as planted or fabricated if people choose to try and use this against the League. I'll get the other members to set up a meeting with the press tonight and I trust you all to rest and prepare to meet with Phantom and Zeal again."
The team nodded and prepared to set off when Batman called out, "And Kid Flash?" Wally froze by the Zeta Tubes, "Don't think I don't know about your little reveal trick you pulled. However,, because it did work and bought us time and a way to approach I won't punish you." Wally let out a big sigh before Bats finished. "But I will be letting Flash know and he will probably have some words with you about identities." With a nod Bats dismissed him and went to call the tower and get some members down for the press conference.
