"Nakiirn! Look." I called as I looked up at the eggs from my spot on the floor. It had been about five days and most of my time had been spent either watching the eggs or talking to Dakoya and of course the water Orion had told me to get. Every evening, I would take Dakoya to the pools and get Nakiirn his water. Most times I got him to drink it, but there had been a few times where I either couldn't get him to wake up, or he wouldn't accept it. Any time that I couldn't wake him up, I would turn to Dakoya, worried as hell. Every time though, Dakoya had told me not to worry and that I had to give it some time before Nakiirn would wake up. Even though there had been two to guard us, I had wanted Dakoya in the room with me for most of it. I liked his company and he had some really awesome stories.
Orion had come a few times, watching the eggs with me as we talked. He had given me a few books like he said he would and, oh my god! They were amazing to read. I knew so much more about the history of the dragons than before. I had told Orion about the magic I was trying to practise as well. He was so nice to talk to and had even asked to see me use it. I had only managed a little, and almost felt ashamed about it. That had spurred me on a bit though and the rest of that day was spent with me practicing while Dakoya watched.
At about day four, I managed to wake Nakiirn up just enough to get him to listen to the names Dakoya and I had picked out, though I hadn't expected him to love them all. And sort of got him to pick a few out. But he had of course told me that he loved them because I did. I remember sighing at that because I wanted him to help me pick. Then after Nakiirn had passed out again, I had gone back to my magic practice with Dakoya watching me again. I never really minded him watching, it was actually kind of nice. Because I knew that if I got stuck, I could ask him to help me out.
I got up from where I was sitting on the floor and jumped onto the bed. Crawling over to Nakiirn, I gently traced my hand along his cheek as I looked at his sleeping face.
"Wake up. Come look." I said softly as I continued to stroke his soft features.
Nakiirn stirred as I had touched him, but he didn't seem to wake. Trying something different, I tried talking to him in my mind. Nakiirn, you don't want to miss this. Wake up!
"I'm awake," he muttered softly and opened his eyes to look at me. He gave me a small smile.
I smiled at him brightly and took his hand as I slowly guided him off of the bed and over to the eggs. There were small cracks appearing in all of them as I looked at them in wonder. Oh my god! We were about to meet our little babies! I had waited for this moment for so long it seemed. Even if it had only been about five days, I still felt like I couldn't wait any longer.
Nakiirn seated himself at the edge of the bed, watching the eggs with me. They moved a little, then a little more. The cracks became more apparent as I watched in awe. I could feel Nakiirn's excitement as he watched them intently.
The top of the one in the middle came free, popping up as the baby dragon within shoved it upward. It stopped there, and all I could see beneath the jagged edge was the outline of a dark colored dragon; its head lost underneath the top of the egg. The egg top twisted back and forth. Then came a squeak. Next to that one, the egg rocked hard, knocked into the middle one and upended the dragon within. A cacophony of squeaks and squeals filled the air as egg shell went everywhere. Long whip like tails flipped back and forth, smacking into the other eggs as the pair of dragons tousled with one another. One was black, the other was white.
The pair of dragons who were wrestling immediately out of their eggs knocked into the others and the first to succumb to their chaotic nature broke apart as it tipped over against the rocks. All four limbs sprawled underneath the remains of the egg shell, tiny toes also extended outward as the dragon lay there -undoubtedly in shock. It wiggled it's toes, then pulled its legs slowly back toward its body. Standing up, it squeaked in alarm as the eggshell over its body had yet to be removed. The little dragon continued squeaking and hopping as it turned around and around.
