I pulled up to Jenny's modest house. Her dog came out from the doggie door and ran up to my bike. "Ah ah ah! Spike! Sit boy!" She commanded as she picked Caleb off my lap. Spike was a huge pitbull.
"What a sweetheart," I said as he stood on his hind legs and licked me all over. "I really appreciate the ride," she said. "Anytime, Jenny."
She smiled and blushed. "Go on inside. I made cookies", she said as she put Caleb down and gently padded his butt for him run inside. "Yay! COOKIES!", he shouted happily as he ran inside and Spike followed behind him. "Don't give any to Spike!", she shouted. "I KNOW I KNOW!", he shouted back.
We both giggled. "You know, Doctor Zhivago is quite the novel." She tilted her head in surprise. "You've already started reading it?", she asked. "Yeah, I had a sub in Calc. Thought I might as well. When should I give it back to you?", I asked.
She shook her hand. "I'm like the librarian's favorite student." "Of course," I teased. She gently punched my shoulder. "She lets me take books all the time. Take it as a gift from me. I'll give you The Flame and The Flower next."
I smiled and said, "I like that." We both stared into each other's eyes. "Oh! how rude of me!", she gasped. "Would you like to come inside? I made cookies and some homemade lemonade." I turned off the engine and said, "Sure."
