Chapter 40

Hunter

There she was. She moaned as she opened her eyes.

"Hunter!", she said happily. She looked so tired.

My jacket was hanging over the back of my chair as I had spent three nights barely sleeping and never leaving her side until she awoke.

"Sweetheart, you're hurt," she said as she pointed to my bloody shirt and bandages abdomen.

"What happened?", she asked.

"There was a hostage situation. And luckily you and Caleb were saved."

"Where's Caleb?!", she asked.

"Don't worry. He's with your dad."

"What about Brandon?", she asked with a scared look on her face.

I kissed her forehead. "He's dead, baby. He's dead. He can't hurt you or Caleb anymore."

She sighed and hugged me, but she winced as she reached over.

The doctor came in. "Woah there, hun! You don't wanna do any stretching for the next few weeks. You were beaten badly," he said.

"But I'm afraid that's not the worst of news."

Jenny's face grew horrified.

"Was I...raped?", she said as tears began to form.

"No," the doctor said.

She sighed as I held her hand.

"But, you were beaten. Especially hard. And your lower abdomen and ovaries took some damage. So, that may have some long term effects if you wanna have children."

"WHAT?!", she shouted. "I CANT HAVE KIDS?!", she said hysterically.

"Well, you can but it'll definitely be harder to get pregnant, or nearly impossible. Unless we try in-vitro. But even that can do more damage to your uterus and ovaries. You still have time to heal and we'll have to run tests. I'm sorry, Jennifer." He shut the door behind him as he left.

She began to cry and weep hysterically. I kissed her forehead and wept with her. "It's ok, hun. I'll be with you."

She pushed me away. "I CANT HAVE KIDS, HUNTER! MY DREAM! NY PRIDE AND JOY! ALL I EVER WANTED TO BE WAS A MOTHER! AND THEY STOLE THAT AWAY FROM ME! JUST GO AWAY!," she shouted as she turned around and faced away from me. I felt awful.

Sweetheart, I'm so sorry. You are the most deserving woman to be a mother.
