Chapter 15

Yuan's POV

I've been engrossed with work lately. Too many papers and meetings made my day long and tired. I got up from my seat and went home.
I saw my mom standing in front of the door.
"Anong ginagawa mo,ni hindi ka na marunong umuwi ng bahay.Puro trabaho lang ang inatupag mo," panimula sa sermon ng mama ko. Pumasok ako sa loob at inilagay sa sofa ang dala kong bag. I was really tired today.
"Alam mo bang birthday ni Masato ngayon?" Umupo ito sa katapat na sofa na inuupuan ko. My mom is a great preacher.
"Oo----what?" Napatayo ako.Kaya pala wala sina Emily at Lee ngayon. Why I forgot that? Ang sama ko talaga. I looked at my wristwatch. It's 10:00 in the evening.
" Ikaw lang ang wala. Bakait ba ayaw mo sa kanya huh? Sabihin mo nga,Lee told me that you are afraid if he would know before that you can't give him a child. Yuan,hindi basehan ang anak kung gaano mo siya kamahal. Now,ano ang mga reason mo sa buhay kong bakit ayaw mo sa kanya?" galit na sabi nito. I kept quiet. Mahal ko na ang taobg yun. Sadyang nakalimutan ko lang talaga ang birthday niya.
"Mom,I'm tired. I don't want to talk about it."
"Yuan,mahal ka ng taong iyon. Hindi mo ba nakita yun?"
"Oo na,alam ko yun."
"Kung alam mo bakit hindi ka sumipot sa bahay niya kanina,mabuti pa ang Lola mo pumunta. Eh ikaw,wala."
"Nakalimutan ko nga. Tao lang ako. Hindi perpekto. Makakalimutan din ang mga bagay bagay."
"Anong gagawin mo ngayon?"
"Natutulog ano pa nga ba?"
"Ano? Hindi mo man lang tatawagan at babatiin ang taong iyon?"
"Low battery yung cellphone ko."
"Gamitin mo ang landline."
"Natutulog na iyon ngayon."
Tumayo na ito at iniwan ako sa sala. Ano kayang ginawa niya ngayon?Masaya kaya siya? I looked at my phone. Hindi man lang ito tumawag sa akin. Nagagalit kaya marahil sa akin.
I climbed up and get ready to sleep.
I'm sure tomorrow will be a war. Uulanan na naman ako ng batikos mula kina Emily at Lee.
Natulog na ako.

In the morning,I intentionally woke up early. I didn't have breakfast at home because I want to go to the school early than everyone. The school still silent and no one is even walking outside. I got in my office and  started working.  I looked at my phone. It's 7:30 in the morning. I'm sure they will be here in a minute.
I pretended to act like nothing happened.
Pumasok sina Emily at Lee sa loob ng office ko.
Tumingin sila sa akin.
"Did you go home last night,Yuan?"
Tumango ako.
I looked at them.
"Where did you go? I've been very busy yesterday. You never showed up and ended up doing all your task. "
Umupo sila sa katapat ng mesa ko.
"Bakit hindi ka pumunta sa bahay ni Masato kahapon. Ikaw lang ang wala don?"galit na tanong ni Emily.
" He's waiting for you. He's hoping you would come and greet him. What kind of person are you?I'm sure you forget it. Right?" Lee said.
"What are you going to do now? He'll not come today."
"And why? Whatever. Kung ayaw niya ng magtrabaho,then let him resign. "
"Yuan!"
"Yuan!"
They stood up. Iniwan nila ako. I put my pen down. Naisuklay ko ang sariling kamay sa mga buhok ko. Bakit ko na sabi yun?ang sama ko talaga.
I dialed his number. Out of coverage iyon.
During lunch time,I called him again. I couldn't contact him. He must be angry at me.
Kinahapunan ay nauna ng umuwi sina Emmy at Lee sa akin without saying any goodbyes. Well,of course all of them are angry at me. Even my parents do so.
"Ms. Yuan,don't you want to go home?" Christilyn went inside my office.
I looked at her. My tears began to flow down my cheeks.
"Ms. Are you okay?"
"Do you believe me if I forget his birthday yesterday?"
She looked at me.
"Nakalimutan ko iyon. I was very busy yesterday. I even didn't have my lunch because I want to finish it."
"I know you're very busy,Ms. Yuan. Don't worry. He won't get angry just because you never showed up. He will understand."
She said.
"You can go home early,I'll be leaving soon."
Nauna na itong lumabas ng building.
I sat there for a couple of minutes before I decided to go to his place. He owed an explanation from me so I should meet him.
I drove my car to his house. My heart is pounding so loud that I could even hear them.
"Yuan,you better choose the right words before you opened your mouth. This is your last chance. "
I scolded myself.
My phone rang before I got out from my car. It's my mom.
"Hello,ma."
"Oh,hindi ka pa ba uuwi? It's already 8 at hapunan na."
"Mauna na kayo.May ginagawa pa ako."
"Okay,"
I ended the call and walked to his gate. I pushed the door bell button. It's the third time but no one answered.
He must be really angry at me.
"Where is he? Tsk," I stomped my feet when nobody went out to open the gate. I looked up in the sky and I found out it's cloudy and maybe it will rain today. I might end up here a rain soaked puppy. I didn't bring any umbrellas.
"Where is he?"
I pushed again and there I saw him running towards the gate. He opened it.
"What are you doing here?" He asked me. His face is really serious this time. What should I do?
"I remembered yesterday is your birthday." I said it in a whisper like tone.
"And then what?"
"Belated happy birthday. See you tomorrow."
I turned my back against him and went to my car. When I'm already inside I saw him watching at me. The heavy rain dropped. He was there standing and the rain is still pouring.
I got out and ran.
"What are you doing?" I told him. He hugged me tightly.
"I thought you never come. I thought you never knew that it was my birthday. "He said while crying in my shoulder.
" I've been so bad to you. Instead of giving you joy,I gave you pain. I'm not worthy of your love. I always hurt you,"
"No,the stars rewrote it so that this pain will never remain in my heart. It is not pain,Yuan. "
"Just forget me. You can still find someone else better than me."
"I'm sorry but I can't do that. There's no one better than you except you. My heart is only for you. If you don't have anything to say,you can go back now."
