“Don’t think she knows eh?” Ezekiel muttered. Daniel shot him a look that clearly told him to shut up. I pulled the safety off of the gun and aimed it at the Latino’s back.
“Turn around, hands in the air now.” I ordered tersely. I’d started keeping a gun in my bedside table after the apartment a floor down had gotten broken into. Besides, when I was little, my uncle had taken me to the shooting range and taught me how to shoot everything, from pistols to rifles. Fat lot of good it would do if they were armed though. I watched the Latino, Ezekiel, slowly turn around. I’d heard parts of their conversation from the hall. Hey sound travels in a small apartment.
“What the hell are you?”
“Please, put the gun down and we’ll explain.” The red head, Daniel, took a step forward, but then took a quick step back as I felt my eyes flash.
“I don’t want explanations. I want you out of my home, and away from me. You and you’re creepy hot friend too.” Daniel shook his head.
“Please try to understand, we’re not going to hurt you-”
“That’s why I have this.” I braced my feet. “I will give you to the count of five to get the hell out of my house before I shoot and call the cops. The real ones.”
“Look,”
“1……”
“It’s really hard to explain,”
“2……”
“We kind of need to show you it,”
“3…….” Suddenly, Ezekiel raised his arm, and I felt myself fly into the air. He then carelessly waved his arm towards the recliner and I went sailing towards it, landing in it so hard it almost fell over backwards. My gun clattered to the floor. I lunged towards it but just as I was about to hook my fingers around it, I felt as if a giant wall was pushing me back into the chair. Daniel rubbed his eyes, and took a moment to glare again at Ezekiel.
“Was that really necessary?”Ezekiel smiled grimly.
“Well it was either that or let her shoot your ass.”Daniel rolled his eyes.
“You know I would have stopped it.” The other man shrugged.
“We tried it your way, it didn’t work, but when we try mine it works pretty damn well, now what’s that tell you?”
“That you both are insane psychopaths that deserve to be locked up in a rubber room?” I supplied from the recliner, trying to get up. Ezekiel splayed his hand and I felt the pressure on me increase.
“Now are you going to listen?”
“Well I don’t really have a choice now do I?” I replied back sarcastically. Daniel raised an eyebrow.
“Actually you do have a choice. Even though you are still stuck in that chair, you can choose to tune out everything we are going to say or-”
“It was sarcasm Daniel.” Ezekiel sighed. “When was the last time you were actually around mortals?” Daniel shot him another glare. He’s pretty good at those. I thought. Wait, mortals? What the hell?
“Not that long, it was actually….AGH!” Daniel fell to his knees, clutching his head.
“Daniel!” Ezekiel rushed to his side, although keeping his main focus on me. “Daniel what do you see?” Daniel looked up and I saw that his eyes had gone pure gold, pupils and all.
“What the hell?” I shouted seriously freaked out.
“Its coming,” He murmured. He blinked and shook his head and his eyes were back to pale green. He glanced at Ezekiel. “We don’t have much time.” Ezekiel nodded tersely.
“Christina, I’m going to let you up now, but I need you to grab a bag and be ready to go in five minutes understand?” His eyes smoldered into mine. I nodded. Like hell I will. AS I felt the pressure lift, I sprang for my gun, but got tackled by Ezekiel. He sighed and shook his head.
“I told you to grab a bag and be ready to go.”
“Ezekiel, it doesn’t seem to work on her.” Daniel intoned as he pulled himself to his feet. Ezekiel cocked his head.
“Hmm, you’re right it doesn’t. Interesting.” I squirmed under him. Normally I wasn’t nervous around guys, but this one, he set me on edge, and the pit in my stomach just hadn’t gone away ever since I saw him. I glared at him.
“What are you crack pots talking about?” I demanded. Ezekiel’s eyes smoldered into my own.
“Get a bag ready, now Christina, and kindly bring that lovely box you inherited.” He replied, getting off of me. I sat up, head spinning. How did he know about the box? Daniel clutched his head again.
“We’re running out of time.” Ezekiel moved to walk towards my room, but I stood up and ran in myself, slamming the door shut behind me and locking it. I reached into the closet and grabbed my volleyball travel bag. Acting fast, I slid my laptop into its case and inside the bag, clothes, my cell phone, the wad of cash from under my mattress went into an extra wallet with my drivers license, and after a moment of hesitation, grabbed the box my mom had left for me. If it was important enough for those to crack heads to ask for, I’d better bring it with me. Then I opened up the window…….

Daniel paced around nervously while I lounged on the couch the perfect picture of ease.
“We need to move, get her to a safe location. They tracked her scent from the school and they’re moving fast.”
“What are we up against? Assault demons? Tracker demon?” I asked boredly. I knew we could take anything Hell threw at us with ease. Daniel shook his head and closed his eyes.
“A hunter.” Except that. I jackknifed to my feet.
“Goddamnit!” I swore, and a tongue of flame leapt to life before me. Daniel waved his hand and the flame went out, but I was already moving down the short hallway.
“Christina, a little faster would be nice!” I had to work to keep my voice normal, cool and measured, trying to hide the panic that threatened to break through the carefully constructed mask I had created. No answer. I tried the door and found it locked. No surprise. Daniel walked up and placed his hand on the door and began muttering in Latin. I growled under my breath.
“A little faster if you please, Daniel.” Daniel shot me a glare but continued his mutterings. There was a faint click and I swept into the room. It was empty. I rushed to the open window and saw Christina’s mane of dark red hair round the corner and disappear. I didn’t know whether or not I should be impressed or pissed. Daniel came over and looked at me with concern as I and leaned on the sill, cool mask back in place.
“Looks like we finally got a smart one don’t we?”
