A/N Finally back on the internet. Being stuck at home with a crappy phone network it has been a lonely 3 days.
For those of you who guessed Hongbin would be my next focus CONGRATULATION! Lets see what our beautiful visual has in store. ___________________________________________________
Hongbin never realized how involved the filming of a drama series could be. Day shoots, night shoots, last minute script changes. Everywhere was a frenzy of activity.
He loved it.
He thrived on the controlled chaos. It gave him the same thrill that performing on stage did only spread out over days instead of just hours. So many roles to play, on camera as well as off.
It wasn't his first time on a film set. During their competition he had won a small role in a music video. That was followed by a cameo with the rest of the VIXX members in the drama "You're Beautiful." Neither of those was as involved as this.
"Glorious Day" was his first major drama role. It was only a minor character but it was a start. Acting allowed him to put the skills he had honed all his life to good use; pretending to be someone he wasn't. Implementing his most useful tool, his charming, boyish smile, Hongbin mixed easily with the cast and crew.
Most of them.
Seo Yeon Jeong was another fledgling actor on the set. Word was, he had auditioned for the role as Hongbin. Instead he was hired as an extra to fill in crowd scenes and do certain walk-bys. He quickly earned a reputation among the minor actors as a crude loudmouth. Anyone he considered below him became the target of his snide remarks. He was crafty about it, mouthing off only where his mark and his small band of followers could hear. Hongbin wasn't his only target; just his most frequent one. He resented that this upstart had gotten the role he wanted. He also resented that no matter how sharp his tongue was, Hongbin didn't react. Just once he wanted to wipe that sickening smile off his face.
He regretted it the first time it happened.
The crew was setting up to shoot some of the upcoming outdoor sequences and everything was moving at a hectic pace. While the setup was going on, the actors broke for lunch. Leo and Hyuk had joined Hongbin as the crew broke for lunch. The two had minor cameos in the drama and would be shooting later that day. Another group of actors were setting at a different table nearby.
"I don't see why they wanted some pretty flower boys for those roles. We could have done a better job." Seo Yeon Jeong was heard grousing to his table of cohorts.
Hongbin rose from his seat and leisurely walked over to the other table wearing his signature smile.
"I heard you auditioned for my role." Hongbin said to Seo Yeon Jeong. "Obviously you weren't pretty enough."
Seo Yeon Jeong shot up out of his seat. It was a move meant to intimidate, but Hongbin didn't back down. He did drop his smile.
The change was instantaneous. The charming, good guy disappeared. In his place stood a cold, ominous figure. Not only had the smile left his mouth, it left his eyes too. Dead eyes, devoid of all feeling stared Seo Yeon Jeong down. At the center of that look lay the promise of unimaginable pain if he took one more step.
Seo Yeon Jeong froze. One look and an icy chill paralyzed him. He tried to swallow the fear that soured his mouth. He flinched back when Hongbin leaned forward to whisper in his ear.
"I've had enough." Hongbin's voice was ice slicing past Seo Yeon Jeong ear. His whisper was just loud enough for the other's at Seo Yeon Jeong table to hear. "I suggest you shut your mouth and sit back down. You need to learn to be content with your LITTLE role in this life. I don't envision you ever being more than an extra in this world. An extra who can be cut from the scene at any time."
Just as suddenly as it disappeared, that smile returned to his lips. Only to his lips, not his eyes. He patted Seo Yeon Jeong lightly on the cheek, his cold, dead eyes still nailing him frozen where he stood. After a brief moment he turned and walked away.
Leo and Hyuk followed, both keeping a wary eye on Hongbin. They were both well aware of what he was capable of.
"Guess he got you there," they heard one of Seo Yeon Jeong's friends ridiculing him. The rest of is table laughed in agreement. That made Hongbin smile even more.
"What did you say to him?" Hyuk asked, concerned
"Nothing he didn't already know," was Hongbin's offhanded reply.
"By the way, how did your interview with the police go?" Hongbin asked Hyuk with the same nonchalance.
"Hey man! What the...... Keep your voice down." Hyuk said as both he and Leo glanced around to see if anyone had overheard. Hongbin gave them both a "no big deal" shrug of his shoulders and kept on walking.
After the bodies of Kim Young Hoon and Ha Jae Don were discovered in that overgrown field, the police had called Hyuk in for questioning along with the rest of the group. He was questioned about his whereabouts for the night they estimated the murders took place. The local police were informed of the history between the three They were investigating on behalf of the detectives who were handling the case.
It was routine questioning and went about how they expected.
With the hundreds of people at the concert and all the members vouching for him on the long drive back to Seoul, Hyuk had a rock-solid alibi. He was never really a suspect. How could they suspect this skinny, baby-faced K-POP idol of such a heinous crime? In short order all the formalities were met and the police left to pursue more promising avenues of investigation. Those two had long criminal records and quite a few enemies capable of this kind of crime.
The police never mentioned a third death that occurred that same night.
The morning after the charity concert the body of a young boy was found in the park near the concert venue. The body was curled up under a tree, a blanket of leaves partially covering him. The body still hadn't been identified. Many of the town's people remembered seeing him wandering the streets but not enough to care. There were no injuries on the body or any other signs of foul play. The corner pronounced the cause of death as extreme hypothermia. He was just another abandoned child left to fend for himself and succumbing to the harsh winter weather.
During the questioning Hongbin was the only one of the group that wasn't the least bit stressed. Putting on his mask of sincerity, he was the picture of innocence. He was good at picking what mask to wear.
A/N What secrets do you think Hongbin is hiding behind that smile? Can something as simple as a smile change how we see a person?
What mask do you feel you wear to get trough your day to day life?
What do you think is in store for Seo Yeon Jeong?
What's up with his callous attitude even toward his fellow band members?
Anyone keeping a body count on the number of children who have mysteriously died? More on that later.
Let me know what you think. I welcome any comments. If you enjoyed tis chapter I would appreciate it if you would take the time to click that little Vote star.
In parting, a compilation of Hongbin's iconic smile. Enjoy!
