Instead of a thief, I discover a little girl. Lorie!
> What are you doing in my room again, Lorie, you scared the life out of me!
She doesn't answer and just stares at me strangely. She seems elsewhere. I go further into the room and discover that all my drawers are open. No doubt, Lorie's been searching through my stuff again. And this time, I realize very quickly that she hasn't just been snooping through my drawers. Stay calm. That's what I should do, of course, but it's easier said than done. Lorie really is unbearable. There's broken glass near my dresser...Now I know what that noise was. I approach and realize that Lorie broke something. She tried hiding it by pushing the pieces of glass under the dresser, but the light reflects on them, making it glimmer which catches my eye. It's actually the first thing I saw when I entered the room. What could she have broken? To my knowledge, there was nothing very valuable in the room. I seem to recall that there was a tiny vase on my dresser when I moved in. But I'm sure I put it away, precisely because I was afraid of breaking it. I go closer and see that Lorie broke my little mirror! Something that was very precious to me. It's a mirror that my mother gave me for my 15th birthday. I've had it with me ever since. It's irreplaceable. I'm mad with rage! It was a reminder of her.
> Lorie! What have you done?! This mirror was very precious to me. You have no idea what it meant to me.
I hold the broken mirror out to Lorie trying to make her understand how sad and angry I am! She suddenly moves back, lowering her eyes as if afraid of what she'd seen in the mirror. What could she have seen in this broken looking-glass? Is it because she's ashamed of what she did and doesn't want to see her guilty look in the reflection? Another explanation suddenly dawns on me, like a distant murmur as if someone was whispering it in my ear. This little girl isn't like you. She's different. In a flash, something comes back to mind. I remember reading in Professor Jones book that vampires didn't like mirrors. If Lorie were a vampire, that would explain why her skin's always so cold and I never see her eating. But it's impossible! I don't believe in vampires. They're just old folktales. Come to think of it, according to certain sources, vampires see their flesh eaten bodies whenever they see themselves in a mirror. Certain other sources say that vampires don't see their own reflection at all. But, either way, it must be an ordeal. On an impulse, I wave a piece of broken mirror in front of Lorie. May as well have immediate confirmation that I'm letting my imagination run away with me! The little girls take the mirror fragment and hurls it against the wall.
Lorie > You're not allowed! Mirrors are forbidden here at the manor, I decide, and you have to obey!
I don't have time to realize what's happening that Lorie, furiously pushes me back. I'm blown away by her strength which throws me back against the bed. Overwhelmed by panic. The strength that Lorie used against me totally destabilized me. It's totally out of proportion for a girl of her age! I suddenly feel in grave danger, faced with this really strange little girl. Even if she is much shorter than me. I catch my breath and look er straight in the eye to cover my anxiety. Her behaviour is out of order. She mustn't use violence against me. I am an adult, and above all, I am her nanny.
> Get out of my room, Lorie! NOW!
Lorie > I want to go to the fairground, you promised!
> I'm sorry, Lorie, but right now the last thing I want to do is entertain you! Go to your room and calm down!
Lorie doesn't listen to me and leaves my room, slamming the door. I hear her stomp down the stairs. I pick up the broken pieces of mirror and put my clothes back in the drawers. From now on, I will have to lock my room whenever I go to university. Lorie can't keep coming in and searching through my things.
