When I got home, Granny was in the kitchen. "Ah Harper! You're back...early? Never mind that I just made some lunch. Oh hello Angie, would you like some lunch as well?" She said in a cherry tone. I sat at the dining table and said flatly, "Granny what am I exactly? DO not lie, I know i'm not human." Her facial expression changed to one of fear, "w-what do you m-mean?" Angie sighed and put a hand on Granny's shoulder, "Mrs. Lin, today Harper's eyes were glowing because she was angry with someone. Please, I was right there; I saw. What's wrong with Harper" Granny sat opposite us on the dining table, she looked up and mumbled, "I'm sorry Tianna."
She began to explain, " Once upon a time, in a world beyond Earth; lived a beautiful and young Princess. She was to become ruler of that world on her 18th birthday. Her father, the king, had set up many suitors for her to court but she rejected all. One day, the king's best friend, who was also a king, came to visit him. He had brought along his young son, a prince. It was there that the two had fell in love. One day, a prophecy was sent out; it said that the next child born from the Princess of the sky, shall be gifted with light, elemental powers. The child will be identified with golden eyes, she will be the up rising or the fall of the outsider kingdom. The princess was afraid that her father may kill the baby she was yet to concieve so she made a plan; a plan to run away from her world. She told the love of her life this and he agreed, for he too was fearful for her. The princess went through a portal that sent her to Earth, The prince couldn't come so the two were separated; never seeing each other again. On Earth, the princess fell in love again with a human and he, is was here where the princess conceived the little girl. She was born with golden eyes, indicating that she did contain the strong powers. The child grow without any knowledge of this, even when it was her powers that had started the accident that killed her parents, leaving the child to live with a relative."
Angie glanced at me and frowned, " I don't understand. What did that fairytale have to do with Harper?" I stood, tears already streaming down my face, "I'm the child in that story. The golden-eyed girl. I was the child who killed her parents" Granny looked at me sadly, " no no. It was an accident Harper-" "on my part!" I snapped. Angie gave me a sympathetic smile, "That was not your fault. Your parents didn't teach you or tell you about these gifts; how could you have stopped That? How would you have you known? Take a breather and relax, Mrs. Lin and I will help you out. We're your only family you got; the only ones you can trust. You told me that yourself."
Despite my anger and sadness, I knew Angie was right. She's always right, no matter how crazy or dumb some of the things she says are; they make sense. Granny cleared her throat, "uhh- speaking of helping. Ms. Pager here doesn't know anything beyond that story and I only know about their world. Not a lot or enough, but it's name is Celestivia or Селестивия. Their local or native language is Russian." I covered my face with my hands, "speaking another language right now in not helping" Angie patted my shoulder "Don't worry Harper. I know a way to help. It might sound crazy and dangerous but I know it's the right thing to do. We have to take a journey to go to Celestivia."
Granny stood up, "No! Harper I forbid it! You cannot go there; we can help you here-" "how?" I questioned, wiping my warm tears away, "how can you help? What more do you know than a Селестивян?" Granny lowered her head and gave a defeated sigh, "I know, im sorry. I'm worried about you. Your parents wouldn't have wanted this." Angie rolled her eyes, "with all do respect Mrs. Lin but Harper's mother would've been able to help her. And, she was destined to return, parents or not; a prophecy happens whether you like it or not"
Granny eyed Angie, "sometime I really wish Tianna would be able to help but Angie is right...You two follow me." She led us to our basement; a place I was never allowed, Granny picked up this weird piece and then mumble, "Селестивия!", she then tapped the piece and a circular portal opened before her. In it, was snow. Well the portal seemed to open on a mountain near the kingdom. It was snowy on the mountain; correction, it was snowing everywhere! from the mountain to the kingdom below, to the surrounding sea; even the tiny islands in the distance was snowing. The sky was blanketed in dark grey clouds, the falling snowflakes were dense. A biting cold breeze escaped the portal and slapped me in the face. I had this feeling that this is not the actual weather of this place and that it used to be sunny and bright...I'm guessing something happened to cause thins, making me the only person to fix it.
Granny shoved a backpack in my hands along with the teleporting item. Her eyes looked red and glassy, "Be careful Harper Gold. There is food and books about Celestivia in that bag. Oh! There is also a picture of your mother in there." I slung the bag over my shoulder, "What about warm clothes?" Granny nodded, "everything's in there do not worry. Hurry through now, the portal will be closing any minute now" As I was about to step in I tripped and I grabbed Angie's arm, bringing the both of us trough the portal; right before it closed. This was not good, I had brought my best friend in this; how was I to get her out?
She shivered, "shit! This can't be good. You pulled me here for what reason?" I panicked, "it was an accident okay? geez, calm down. As soon as I figure out how to use this portal thingy ill send you back." She gestured wildly to the kingdom below, " and miss out on all this? nuh uh missy, I'm staying. like it or not, I'm helping you out Harper. You can't deny it; you'd be lost without me." I laughed lightly and began to walk up the mountain to find a cave, "you know me so well but come, lets get some shelter. you don't want hyperthermia, right?" She rolled her eyes at me and began walking up the mountain. We had decided to at least learn a few things about this place before marching in there. We also had to make a plan on how we would enter the kingdom, we couldn't just storm in there and shout out 'hey I'm Harper from Earth and I'm your savior. Bow before me blah blah blah' nah, that's not going to work. We eventually came across a cave that gave a great view of the snowy kingdom below. Angie sat down and rubbed her hands together, "its so fracking cold in here. Could you make a fire or something?" I gave her a pointed look, " really? I can barely keep myself warm and you want me to make a fire?" She frowned at me and pouted, "I'm getting hyperthermia over here" I rolled my eyes, "fine."
I picked up two small rocks and rubbed them together to make the a spark on some dried leaves. it did, then I proceed to gently bow the smoking leaf and I tiny flame burst up. I had gathered more dried leaves and dropped the burning leaf in the pile and it slowly created a fire, 'there you go. one warm fire is here." She gaped at me, "cheater." A few minutes later, Angie and I were in some warm winter clothes, huddled up around the fire; reading the books Granny had given me. I got up and got out another book about the kingdom called 'Beautiful Celestivia II' when a picture of my mother fell out, before it could fly away I grabbed it and stared at my mother's faded face. Unconsciously, I fingered the necklace she gave me the night before the fire. It was a silver chain with a star shaped pendant (like in dah book over) "Harper?" Angie's voice sounded behind me. I slipped the picture back into the book, " hmm?" "you okay?" she asked, voice laced with worry. I waved her off, "im fine. don't worry about me; you should get some sleep." She nodded and yawned, then she lay down next to the fire and soon after, her soft snores were echoing around the room. I took this as a my cue and silently slipped out the cave; and slowly made my way into the empty streets of the kingdom. It was layed in snow, no light blazed or fire blaze from any house window; making the place extra cold. The place was dark except for the faint glow of the snow. This place so far was like a ghost town, no one doing late night errands or stray animals anywhere; empty. A few guards were patrolling the area but other than that, emptiness resided the kingdom that night. I shivered and began to retreat to the cave.
Did my mother's absence cause a fall through in this place? I hope they didn't have anything against her
