Chapter 5

 After training, I slipped into my room to see Angie already asleep. I took a quick shower and climbed into my soft, warm bed. Sadly, sleep was the last thing on my mind, thoughts whirled in my head; successfully keeping me awake. a few restless hours later, I gave up the fight to sleep and put on my hoodie and slippers and quietly exited the room. As expected, the halls were empty and cold, making me wrap my hoodie tighter around me . I walked aimlessly throught the castle and surprisingly, I didn't see any guards. it's as if the castle was abandoned and forgotten. "damn," I mumbled to myself "did my mother cause this?" i'd be lying if I said I nearly crapped my pants when  I heard a deep husky voice say, "not all of it."

I spun around so fast, I got dizzy. there stood a guard wearing a red shirt, black trousers, brown brown leather boots and a gleaming metal sword hung on his belt, along with a shiny helmet. I gaped at him, "h-how? were you here all along?" he chuckled, "Извините Принцесса. I didn't mean to scare you, I was just on patrol when I saw you. Then I heard you ask that question; thought you asked me." I slowly nodded and smiled, "o-kay, that's fine. but what happened here? what happened after Celestianna left?" he fixed his gaze to the cloud outside through the window behind me, "when she left, the people went into panic, beacause with her gone; who would save us? the former king, your grandfather, declared King Soren king and arranged a princess for him to marry. this made the people think that a savior would still come because, well, royal blood and all but no, when Prince Nickolas was born, they kept him away from everyone so they wouldn't see his eyes. The enemy kingdom, Аутсайдера, ambushed us; slaughtered hundreds of celestivians and they outed the eternal flame. Since then the flame was out, the place has gotten very cold....there is no more summer, spring autumn etcetera. the Богов combined their powers to try to bring the fire back but they could only provide hot water and warmth, enough warmth so the place doesn't freeze over. Children have been born into snowy days, cloudy skies and cold terrain, they cope with the cold better than most of the traumatized adults. it was said that when our savior returns, it's only tradition the heirs marry. you may have to marry the Принц."

I stilled for a moment, me and Nick? Ha, in this dude's dreams! I shook my head, "okay, so what's with the English/Russian mix?" he shrugged, "everyone is bilingual. it's sort of passed down from our parents or elders I guess. but you understand it?" I nodded, "weirdly, yes. I can't speak it as fluently as you all but I'm from Earth; can't blame me." the guard chuckled, "yes, I suppose. Anyway, I better get going, my captain must be wondering why I haven't returned to my post yet. have a good night Princess." I waved at him, "goodnight." When he left, I continued roaming around the castle, thinking about Celestivia's messed up past. Eventually, I found myself on a balcony; overlooking the castle roof and kingdom. After doing a quick scan, I noticed a figure sitting on the roof. I instantly knew who it was, "Nick!" I whisper-yell towards him. His head snapped to me and he smiled warmly despite the weather. "Harper? What are you doing out here?" I shrugged, "couldn't sleep. You?" He stood and carefully made his way towards the balcony, "same reason as yours." he stretched his arms out to me, "hop down....I promise to catch you." I smirked and hopped over the rail, landing straight into his strong embrace. I patted his shoulder when he put me down, "well, I'm impressed." he just rolled his eyes and held my hand; pulled me to walk with him. our finger unconsciously intertwined together, we continued until we arrived to a little window that was on the roof. Nick turned to me, "this is the skylight to my room. I'm just gonna' get us some blankets okay?" I just nodded and our hands separated as descended into his room. I quietly sat down on the roof and stared up at the night sky; looking at the different constellations in the dark sky. When I was younger, I used think that stars were the souls of our past loved ones looking down on us. I chuckle at that, I was a naïve little kid; Granny always said that. A few moments later, aa soft warm blanket was draped around my shoulders and Nick sat next to me, wrapping himself in my blanket. He blushed, "I could only find one blanket. I-I hope you don't mind?" I smiled and laid my head on his shoulder, "nah. I think its fine and I'm sure you don't mind either." He chuckled, "no, I don't. You have a very comfortable body temperature." I smirked, "My temperature is nice? huh" I saw Nick's cheeks turn pink and I silently laughed; I loved teasing him, he gets flustered easily. I playfully rolled my eyes at him, "I was kidding. I'm starting to think that you have a crush on me." He laughed and shook his head, "maybe I do; maybe I don't. we may never know." I let out an involuntary sigh and stared at Celestivia, the both of us falling into comfortable silence.

Me being me, I broke the silence, "Can you see the  Аутсайдера kingdom from here?" Nickolas stretched his arm out to the east, "just behind those mountains over there. It isn't very close but it isn't too far either." I nodded understandingly, "have you ever visited that place?" Nickolas shook his head, "no but I have heard some stories. It is said to be even colder than here, no warmth and a little bit of food. They had, for many years, tried to steal our fire all for them selves but they extinguished our eternal flame instead. But you Harper, can help us.....maybe both kingdoms! Right now though, you are in serious danger. If the  Аутсайдера knew you were here, they would kidnap you and use you to there own advantage. They aren't very nice people apparently." I shuddered, "damn, that's messed up." Nick wrapped his arm around my shoulder, " do not worry Harper. We'll protect you, you will be fine." I scooted a bit closer to him and rested my head back on his shoulder, "I know, I trust you with my life." I felt him kiss the top of my head, "and you with mine." I closed my eyes and drifted into slumber.

sooooooo how is quarantine going? Mine is very boring and uneventful (except for corona ofc) anyway this chapter was originally longer but when I reread everything I realized that there was at least two chapter together so I kind of shortened it. but I hope you like this chapter, don't forget to vote and comment your thoughts
