"Arre beta! you look so pretty." Badi maa cooed as she applied haldi on Asmara's face. "Isn't she just the prettiest?" Rhea joined in as she look adoringly at a very blushing Asmara.Asmara indeed looked gorgeous in her yellow lehenga and flower jewellery. Infact, everyone was in yellow. And Tarun blushed ever so much when I complimented his yellow kurta when I applied haldi on him.
To say the least, it was delightful.
"All girls of our family are very well behaved and such sweet darlings", Dadi cupped Asmara's face.
"Exceptions exist ofcourse." Rhea adds in glancing at me.
"I'm sensing major Cinderella vibes here." Vivaan whispers making me chuckle.
"I see no prince charming." I retort.
"I need to talk to you." The two of us turn around to find Virik glaring at the two of us. Vivaan smiles at me and takes a step forward but Virik speaks again,"Not you, I need to speak to Yana."
To say that I was too shock to react would be an understatement, and minutes passed by as I stared at Virik Jindal.
I heard Vivaan scoff and say,"Well, I'll see the two of you later then." And with that, he walked away. Virik grabbed my arm and dragged me inside the empty hotel lobby.
"Why Jay?" He asked me in all seriousness, his eyes not leaving mine and his hand not leaving my arm.
"Huh?" I continued to stare again at Virik. Had he finally lost it?
"Why are you hell-bent on seducing Jay when right in this ceremony you can find many men more eligible than Jay?" He asked again, and I couldn't decipher the situation. Again.
"Huh?"
"Are you even sane anymore?" His arm left mine and instead his long fingers ran through his hair."I know I'm not." He said the last part more to himself than to me and closed his eyes.
Probably to calm himself.
I put my hand on his shoulder and his eyes instantly snapped open, staring at mine again.
"Are you okay?" I asked hesitantly because it was quite obvious that he was infact not okay. Not in the least.
"Did you sleep with him?" He asked without beating around the bush. And I? It's quite safe to say that I'm shocked.
I felt anger rising in my head.
"You," I started, in the calmest tone I could muster,"disgust me."
I walked away without turning back. And he didn't stop me, even to apologize.
I walked back into the haldi function, several judgemental eyes turned to me. Ofcourse, it isn't even a suprise. Why wouldn't they? My so called family doesn't exactly leave any stone unturned to justify their behaviour towards me. I am, afterall, nothing but a disgrace. A bad omen, the carrier of bad luck that killed their younger son, daughter-in-law and their only daughter.
"Beta," I felt a hand on my shoulder and turned around to find Anshula Jindal smiling gently at me."It's almost evening and I heard you didn't eat anything, did you? Let's feed you before there isn't anything left." And before I could object, I was dragged to the food counter.Perhaps dragging people runs in the Jindal blood.
But Anshula Jindal actually looking out for my meals? And actually being nice about it? Without being judgmental? And having a conversation with me? Am I losing my bad girl charm?
