"They say the darker the colour of the bride's mehendi, the more love she'll receive from her husband." Dadi lovingly blessed Asmara as she sat with two ladies, getting her bridal mehendi done.
"Did Rhea's mehendi came out to be dark?" Navya asked as Rhea gave out a tight smile.
"Ofcourse she did! And luckily, she got blessed with a husband like Jay." Badi maa cooed as she looked over at Rhea.
"On a scale of 0 to 10, how much do you want to escape this place?" Alia questioned as she sat beside me, with her mehendi endowed palms resting infront of her. "Virik wants to know."
"Virik? And love your mehendi." And indeed, her palms were endowed with elegant yet regal mehendi designs, the back of her hands sporting similar designs.
"Thanks! And yes, Virik. What exactly happened last night? A private strip tease?" She inquired, her eyebrows furrowed, eyes staring right into mine to catch any piece of information they could fine.
"I slept with him, but we didn't have sex." I told her before I could think otherwise. I needed to get this out of my system.
"What?" She exclaimed, her mouth agape. "You've got to be kidding me. So you cuddled all night?"
"Something like that." I confessed, suddenly finding the mehendi designs on my palms very interesting.
"He likes you." She mentions and stares right into my eyes."I know that you do too. The initial fierce hate? Everybody knows that it's two people trying to fight their attraction to one another."
"You're romanticising hate now?" I raised my right eyebrow.
"No, I'm trying to make you see that he didn't hate you. He was just trying to fight off this attraction, so don't hold that up against him." She pleaded, and further told me to get up because outside the hall, Virik Jindal was waiting for me.
And sure enough, there he was.
As soon as he laid his eyes on me, he started walking towards me."You look good."
"I think you're bipolar." I commented as I took another step towards him.
"Oh please, I'm very nice to you these days. Don't you think?" He retaliated, and he indeed was being nice. Almost too nice.
"So I get to say you're bipolar after you flip and become this monster again?" I teased him as he took a step towards me.
"I need to ask you something. Something serious. I like you so will you go out with me?" He asked fast, in one breath.
"I like you too much to go out with you. And you hate the likes of me too much to continue to like me." I repeated what he told me the night of the cocktail party.
"You and me? There's something here. Why are you fighting it? I tried to fight it. It's useless." He took another step towards me, he was so close that I could feel the warmth of his breath.
"Because I really am what you hate." I repeated.
"But I love you." He confessed and suddenly time stood still.
"You what?" I couldn't have heard him right.
"Did I ruin this?" He asked nervously with a frown and a warmth engulfed my heart.
"No. So you still want to go out with me? After we're back in Delhi that is?" I asked and he smugly nodded before reaching towards me and kissing my forehead.
I rushed back to the ceremony after a lot of resistance from Virik.
Somehow, I couldn't stop smiling the entire ceremony even when Badi maa couldn't stop gushing about Jay.
