Timi,
I talk to you but its not the same as touching you
And every time you whisper my name, I wanna run to you
We'll be together it won't be long, it won't be long but it feels like forever, and its hard to be strong...From my room I could hear Michael Bolton song Missing you blaring out from the living room. I sighed and groaned. My mom played these songs so much that I found my self singing along to them sometimes.
My mom has started.
She really loved these old school hits and no one was stopping her from listening to it when ever she was around and for a week she played it everyday. Why? My guess was because of my biological dad.
I noticed they spent more time together, he'd come to the house every evening but I never went out. I was scared to even talk to the man but I knew that soon I would have to face him.
Soon from thinking about my dad, my mind went to Anna. It had been a week I saw her. I unplugged my phone from the socket and opened my WhatsApp app to check if she was online. Her last seen was a week ago. Our last chat was the last day we went out. I decided to call her.
She picked almost immediately.
"Hey babe." I said teasingly in a whisper trying to sound sexy.
I heard her laugh.
"Are you high?"
"No but I really miss you."
'Me too, I've just been busy with school and you with your exams."
"Yeah, but why haven't you been online?"
She was silent for a while and suddenly I was scared.
"Honestly I'm broke, so no money for sub."
"Ahan, ask you dad for money."
I heard her sigh "my dad doesn't have our time, whether he thinks his children are working i don't know, he hardly gives us money."
"Calm down, ill send airtime for you now, but we'll talk tomorrow about all these you hear?"
"Okay". She whispered.
"Anna are you okay?"
"I'm fine Timi, talk to you later bye."
I sat on my bed confused for a while. I really prayed she was okay like she said. I would have loved to talk to her but it was night already and she couldn't come out.
I quickly transfered credit to her and texted her to make sure she got it.
"Timilehin!" My mom shouted, I think it was from the kitchen. The house wasn't big so I could hear her.
"Ma?"
"Food have done, come and see what I'm dishing, if it would be okay for you."
I wasn't really hungry "Don't worry I'm not hungry."
She didn't reply so I went back to pressing my phone. Few seconds later, my room door flew open.
"What's wrong?" My mom asked.
"Nothing, I don't just want to eat?"
"Is it your dad? Come and eat so we'll talk about it."
After so much persuasion I finally gave it. My mouth became watery as I saw the Amala, Gbegiri and ewedu on the plate, and the way she dished it was amazing.
My mom was a superwoman. I looked up to her and smiled.
"I knew you would like it." She said and I agreed.
"What of grandma?" I asked as I looked around, looking for her.
"She's sleeping."
I nodded.
It took me twenty minutes to finish eating and as soon I was done, I cleared the table and faced the TV. I quickly switched off the DVD and changed the station to MTV base to listen to music. Latest music.
"Timi why now?" My mom shouted from the kitchen and I smiled.
Few minutes later my mom joined me.
"Timi I want you to live with your dad." My mom started."I don't know."
"You don't know what? In fact you are going this week."
"No now, where will you stay?" I asked.
My mom looked at me like I had suddenly grown a second head "I will be with you."
"Wait oh, are you going out with him again?"
"It's not your business." My mom replied but she avoided eye contact. I found myself laughing.
"Mummy, well it's your personal matter I won't meddle." I folded my arms and pretended to be interested in what I was watching.
My mom kept staring at me but I ignored her.
"Timi."
"Hmm."
"I said we're moving into your dad's house this week." She said.
I finally looked at her "Mum please let me think about this, it's my life we're talking about here."
My mum eyed me. "Forget this two strands of beards on your chin, you're still my baby."
My eyes widened in surprise and embarrassment, she just talked about my beards. I shrugged it off.
"At least let me stay here till I finish my exams." I said. I was actually finishing my exams this week but she didn't need to know that.
"Ehn that's this Friday na." I was shocked and she could see it on my face "what? Oh you think I don't know?"
"Fine, this weekend." I got up and yawned "Good night mum."
"Good night dear." She replied before dragging the remote and switching on her DVD again to play her songs.
This time around it was I wanna dance with somebody by Whitney Hudson.
"Mummy please at least reduce the volume." I cried out.
She smiled and increased it more "okay dear."
I sighed in frustration before entering the room. I could hear my grandma shouting again. "When will you leave my house? Let me have peace of mind again!"
I laughed before drifting to sleep. There was something life taught me. Life wasn't always sweet but we had to savor those sweet moments. These present moments were those precious moments.
