song of the chapter:
urs ~ nikitaeyong wouldn't say he hated a lot of people, or any at all. even for him, it was a hell of a strong word. but his mother, would probably hold the closet spot to it.
he was hesitant to walk into the hospital room, part of him never wanted to see her again. but then again, he couldn't imagine her dying with no one. he owed that to his late sister, at least.
but for some reason, jaehyun being here with him in, made it so much more pleasant. as if, he grounded him, made it easier to not let himself sink into the unconfident taeyong who was never enough his mother. around jaehyun, he was the successful, outstanding surgical resident that he had worked his off for.
"mother." taeyong finally spoke up, the older woman turned, looking both of them up and down.
"taeyong, i didn't think i would ever see you again. what are you doing here?" she muttered, relatively nonchalantly.
"it's nice to see you too. i'm your emergency contact, the hospital called me when you were hospitalized." taeyong answered, feeling fifteen once again.
"who is this?" she questioned, pointing at jaehyun, who just smiled widely.
"i'm jung jaehyun, taeyong's boyfriend. it's a pleasure to meet you." jaehyun replied, bowing softly with his usual charming smile.
he extended his hand with the vase of flowers, he had picked for her this morning at the little flower shop on taeyong's street. she doesn't accept them, just pointed jaehyun to set them down by the window.
"what's your profession?" she asked, harshly and to the point as always.
"i'm chief of the cardiothoracic surgical department at seoul national hospital, ma'am." jaehyun answered, slightly shocked by how brash this woman was.
he could see a lot of her in taeyong when they first met and he saw how much they were alike, regardless of taeyong's refusal.
jaehyun didn't see how taeyong remotely looked like his father, he was almost a carbon copy of his mother. big eyes, small pink lips, the exact same doll-like features.
it was almost endearing to jaehyun to see how similar their mannerisms were, and regardless of how much taeyong disliked her, he couldn't help but say she raised a beautiful human being.
"h-he's your boss, taeyong? i thought you would've grown out of taking the easy way out of things!" she laughed, making fun of taeyong five minutes into the conversation.
jaehyun saw taeyong's gaze drop down to his feet, feeling the sting of his mother's comment. when he had explained that she wasn't the nicest person, he never thought she would be this insufferable, and downright nasty to taeyong.
"no! not all, ma'am! we met before we even knew that we worked at the same hospital. also, taeyong works in the trauma surgical department. not only that but, taeyong is very gifted, he would never need to do that in order to succeed." jaehyun interrupted taeyong as he was about to speak.
"you didn't invite me to your graduation, taeyong. i figured you didn't have the will power to even finish medical school." she ignored jaehyun and spoke directly to taeyong.
