Rex woke up slowly. There was something small and warm in his arms. Ahsoka. He opened his eyes to find that it was still dark out. The sun would rise soon, though.
"Ahsoka. Ahsoka, you need to get up." He said softly, the small Togruta stirring a little. Ahsoka half opened one eye and shot him a look.
"No' now, Handsome. 'ell Anakin train'n c'n wait." She slurred sleepily, rolling over and snuggling back into his side for warmth. Rex flushed bright red, both from embarrassment and from trying not to laugh, which he failed at miserably. It felt good to laugh. "Whaa... Ne're mind. What time's it?" She groaned.
Rex hated to burst her innocent bubble caused by dreamland, but they needed to move. "Ah... Ahsoka. We need to get up. The sun will be up soon, and we don't want the Trandoshans to find us." He said still wheezing.
Sitting up, he bent down to take a look at his leg. Unwrapping the gauze, he found the wound a scabbed over red welt. It itched something fierce, and probably would leave a nasty scar. But it was closed, and not too tender to the touch. His fever was gone too. He was weak and ravenous, but it was a definite improvement.
Ahsoka whined when his body heat left her and got up too. She passed him the water, and he drank about half of what was left. Offering it to her, she shook her head. "Go ahead and finish it. You need it more than I do." The look she gave him when he tried to protest could have frozen Mustafar. Shrugging, he emptied the water canteen.
"Ok, Kalifa, the girl we met, told me that there's a creek with water nearby, and that the animals are safe to eat. Fires are safe before the hunt." She recalled. Rex nodded, walking alongside her. The sun was just beginning to peek over the horizon. A horn sounded in the distance.
"There was an incident yesterday, and one of the trandoshans died. They're going to come after me. I thought I would warn you ahead of time." Ahsoka said, scaling a tree nearby. Rex paused, thinking.
"I'll stay with you. I'm guessing that's where you got the extra knife and water canteen." He said, starting up after her. They paused on a wide limb high above. Ahsoka took the lead, moving quietly through the leaves. The two shared a look. No more talking for now.
They made their way through the foliage, forsaking speed for stealth in trying to stay hidden. Rex had been on plenty of stealth missions before. They had always been nerve wracking and terrifying, the Citadel mission was one such mission. At least on the stealth missions, he had one mission. He wasn't actively being hunted, like a mynock in a shipyard. In the war, his death would always mean something if it came. Here, he was just another animal to be caught.
"Rex! Get down!" Ahsoka yelled, tackling him off of the branch he was on. He fell, just barely managing to catch a branch to slow his fall. he swung up, landing on it. He moved out of the line of fire, pressing his back to the tree. In his reverie, a trandoshan transport had found them. Shots fired from all directions.
"Run!" Ahsoka yelled, taking off through the trees. Rex ran in the opposite direction. TheTtrandoshans gave chase to Ahsoka. The gravely shouts followed her through the foliage as she ran. Ducking and dodging, she climbed higher and higher.
"You will die for what you did to Young Dar!" The biggest one yelled. He was an ugly brute, bigger than all the rest, the spines on his head and back were longer than the others. His green skin was the exact shade as Dar's, with red markings.
Great. The one that had died going after her happened to be the leader's son. She jumped onto a log, a trandoshan leaving the hovercar and following right on her heels. She swung under it, dropping down to a wide branch beneath her. She frantically tried to remember anything her master taught her on how to deal with situations, but they hadn't exactly covered 'What to do when your running from sport hunters who want to put your skin on a wall.'
