Ahsoka sat cross legged in her room, trying to meditate. Following on Obi-Wan's instructions, she focused on her breathing. In through the nose, out through the mouth.
In through the nose, out through the mouth.
In.
Out.
In.
Out.
She felt herself relax, and reached out through the force. Her master was on mission to Mon Cala with Senator Amidala, some sort of intercommunal unrest. Or, in her master's words, the Seppies saw a planet they wanted, so they killed some people and put a new politician in charge that either was completely loyal to the separatists or wanted a new yacht and the Seppies said they'd pay. She wasn't allowed back into the field just yet, so she decided to try to get some much needed meditation and cultural studies.
The studies, she quickly found, were incredibly boring compared to fighting for survival, so that left the option of meditation. It felt nice to reconnect with the temple and the people in it. She could feel every youngling, and their internal struggle of finding balance. Keep trying young ones. She encouraged, brushing their minds with hers. She could feel the other padawans, at least the ones who were stuck in the temple like her, and the masters and grandmaster who were holding a emergency meeting in the high council room.
They felt her mind brush past them, and immediately shut her out even tighter. She pushed a feeling of apology at Grandmaster Yoda, who seemed to have no hard feelings. She gave a soft chuckle, the amusement a dim sensation from outside the peace of the force. Anakin had probably blown something up on his supposedly 'diplomatic' mission again. She settled deeper into the force, feeling the clones who were walking through the halls either on break or patrol, and a very familiar one approaching her door.
She opened it before he could even knock, still half in a meditative trance floating above the floor. "Rex, when I say that I'm meditating for the rest of the afternoon, I mean it." She grumbled good naturedly, all focus broken in seconds. She settled back down to the floor, and the door shut behind him.
"Sorry Cyare. I just got out of the infirmary again and was bored. Kix has banned me from doing anything fun." He pouted, sitting on the ground next to her. She laughed at the last part, Kix was one of the best medics around, but he could be a little over the top. Not that he had reason not to be, since he probably had to stun Rex and drag his unconscious body just to get him to come in.
"Ha. How's Fives?" She said, pulling out one of her lightsabers dismantled it, fiddling with the parts. Rex gave a small grin.
"His 'I ran into a walker' story didn't explain how he had two black eyes and a bloody lip, but Kix didn't question it too much." Rex winked at her, pretending to hide the bacta pads on his split knuckles.
"Did he really replace all of your rappelling cable with vines?" She asked, wide eyed.
"Yeah, and he wrote 'Tarzan' on my locker with spray paint." He deadpanned. Ahsoka and Rex held each other's gaze, before Ahsoka cracked. The two collapsed into giggles.
"Tarzan? Really? How did he even get spray-paint. They outlawed the sale of that stuff to clones." She cackled. Rex shook his head.
"I just want to know where they got the vines from. Corascant isn't known for it's jungle vegetation." He grinned at her. She kissed him on the cheek, but was interrupted by her new commlink going off. She sighed.
"I have to take this, sorry." Rex grunted.
"Ahsoka here."
"Sorry to interupt your meditation Ahsoka, but you're needed in the council for debriefing. It sounds like Anakin made a mess of things, Again." Obi-Wan's voice crackled over the small speaker. Ahsoka sighed,
"Sure thing master, on my way. Would you like me to inform Captain Rex to report as well?" She asked, a slight thrill of nervousness running through her.
"That won't be necessary, Captain Rex has been declared still unfit for duty by his medic. but do tell the good captain that I say hello." Ahsoka tried to keep from groaning. She could practically hear the smirk in the master's voice.
"Will do, Master Kenobi. Ahsoka out." She turned to Rex with a mock importance. "The good master Kenobi says hello." Rex chuckled, but his eyes were tight with worry.
"Be safe Cyare. I'm going to go kill Kix." He stood up, and the two made their way to the door. Ahsoka stood on tiptoe, and pressed her lips to his briefly.
"I will, and tell Kix I need you sooner rather than later." She murmured. The door slid open, and they started to walk down the hall, stopping at the elevator that lead to the high council chambers.
"This is my stop." She said, pressing her hand to the scanner on the side of the door.
"Give the Seppies karabast for me, commander." He chuckled.
"Don't worry captain, I won't win the war all at once. Besides, Anakin will be there. What's the worst that could happen?" She smirked as the doors opened.
"Hmm... How about a repeat of the second battle of Felucia, without me beside you." He deadpanned.
"What, does Tarzan want to go back to the jungle?" She quipped.
"Will you be safe with him there?"
"Yes, safe and bored to tears." She stepped into the elevator, giving him one last smile as she rocketed upward to the council chambers. The council members looked up expectantly as she walked in. Yoda giving her a small smile
"Needed, on Mon Cala, you are." He grated gently at her.
"But I thought that I wouldn't be back in the field for a while." She asked, looking from him to Obi-Wan.
"No, you normally wouldn't." Obi-Wan agreed, "But we also noticed your behavior to a certain captain, and thought that you needed some distance from him for a while. I know you two had gotten close over your time on the trandoshan hunting world, but you can't let your emotions cloud your judgement in the field, no matter how good friends you are."
"I... Yes master." She tried to play her sudden apprehension as guilt and understanding.
"Good. There is a ship waiting for you down at the launchpad. You will lead a small portion of the 501st down to help Skywalker on Mon Cala. The king was assassinated, and what started as a Quarran uprising against the young prince Lee-Char became an all out civil war when the separatists arrive." The hologram of Master Windu intoned, looking at her. She suppressed a shiver.
Master Windu was one of the only Jedi that had ever made her wary. She had nothing to fear from him, and he had helped her on multiple occasions with her dual lightsaber technique. Perhaps it was the violet blade he used, the darkest natural color of kyber crystals. He was a rare jedi that would actually use his emotions, letting them sharpen his senses while keeping the dark side at bay.
"Ahsoka, after the incident with the trandoshans, you need to be careful, and try to stay out of combat." Obi-Wan looked at her with a mischievous glint in his eyes. She have him a small smile.
"Go quickly, you must, padawan. With you, may the force be." Yoda said. The holograms of the other masters winked out, and Ahsoka took that as her dismissal. She found her gunship, and the troopers inside paused to salute her before going back to equipping the new armor made for the watery planet. As they jumped to lightspeed, she felt every parasec traveled weigh down on her like a load of bricks. I'll be home soon, Rexie.
A/N ~ Another day, another chapter. Not terribly exciting, I know. The next two or three chapters will be covering the Mon Cala arc, so not a lot of Rexsoka. Umbara is coming though, and I probably shouldn't be as excited as I am to write that particular arc. Thanks for the reads! Riddle of the day, Give me food and I live, give me water and I will die, what am I? ~ Ad'ika.
