Ahsoka had never felt something as good as the hot shower she got at her old room in the jedi temple. Except for maybe her first kiss with Rex. She sat on her bed, dressed in a shapeless shift and trying to sleep. She had been tossing and turning for what felt like hours, but to no avail. A knock sounded at her door, and she walked over and opened it to reveal Rex in his civies.
"Couldn't sleep either?" He guessed. Ahsoka chuckled and shook her head, moving so he could come in.
"I'm missing my favorite pillow." She laughed. Rex cracked a smile, taking in the sparsely furnished room.
"And I thought the barracks were spartan." He said, taking a seat on the floor. Ahsoka dragged the only blanket off the bed and cuddled up next to him.
"More possessions harbor jealousy, according to the Jedi." She said, snuggling into his side with a yawn. "Much better. Especially that neither us are covered in dirt and reek like week old bantha milk." Rex gave a low chuckle at that one.
"Yes, that's a definite improvement. How do you feel?" Ahsoka blushed at his sudden tenderness.
"Much better now that I'm no longer comatose. My chest still hurts, I think I broke some ribs." She murmured .
"Me and you both." He flinched as her hand brushed his other side.
"Sorry." She blushed. "I could try-"
"No, you literally just woke up out of a coma." He cut her off. She huffed and leaned back. The hairs on his arms and on the back of his neck raised. "Ahsoka, I said no."
"I'm just seeing how bad it is." She mock pouted. His hand unconsciously rubbed at the scar on his leg through his pants.
"I'll be fine." He muttered. Ahsoka yawned sleepily. "Go to bed, Ahsoka." He said, picking her up gently and setting her on the bed.
"Nooo..." She whined as the heat from his body left her temporarily.
"It's ok, I'm not going anywhere." He consoled, laying down next to her.
"Rex?"
"Yes, Cyare?"
"You can touch my head now." She whispered, nodding off. Rex stroked her lekku softly as he joined her in dreamland. He knew that if he died now, he died the happiest man alive.
Rex came awake with a start, covered in cold sweat. His jerky motion woke Ahsoka up and made his ribs complain.
"What's wrong Rexie? Bad dreams?" She murmured. Rex shook his head.
"No I... I don't remember. I'm sorry I woke you up." He lay back next to her, and looked at the bedside table/bookshelf for the time. The holoclock read about five in the morning.
"Well, now I'm awake." Ahsoka grumbled, turning over on her stomach and burying her face into him. Rex couldn't help but flinch a little. "Sorry, I forgot." She said, rolling so that she was not putting pressure on his ribs. A beeping sound rang out through small room. Ahsoka rolled out of bed with a groan. Rex sat up too.
"Help your self to the 'fresher." She said, opening the door. Obi-Wan stood there with an eyebrow raised.
"I sensed you were awake. Do you care to explain why the captain is in your room?" He asked.
"Nope!" The captain in question joined her at the door. "I'm going to the mess hall to go catch up with Cody. I assume he's back if his general is." Obi-Wan moved so Rex could get by, and Ahsoka let him into the room.
"We couldn't sleep. He make's a good pillow." Was all she said. Obi-Wan looked at her strangely, then shook his head.
"I suppose that makes some sort of sense, because you two probably slept together out there." His face reddened after he realized what he just said. "That's not what I- Oh, dear." Ahsoka couldn't help but laugh.
"I get what you're saying Obi-Wan, but you really have a way with words." She wheezed. Obi-Wan joined in her giggles.
"Commander, what's-" The clone who had come to investigate the source of the disturbance, clearly was not expecting a Jedi council member to be rolling on the floor with laughter with a padawan at five in the morning. Finally, Ahsoka regained her composure.
"Sorry trooper. No emergency here." She gasped for air.
"Sir, Yes sir." The trooper saluted and marched stiffly away, but Ahsoka caught his shoulders shaking in silent laughter.
"Well then, let's go get some breakfast." Obi-Wan suggested, and the two left to go down to the mess.
They heard the mess hall before they saw it. A loud chanting could be heard from a hundred feet away. They entered the hall to see a swarm of clone in 501st blue and 212th yellow surrounding one table. Chants of "REX REX REX REX" and "CODY CODY CODY CODY" came from the respective colors. As Obi-Wan and Ahsoka pushed through the crowd, they came across Rex arm-wrestling the commander. Rex looked up and caught sight of Ahsoka, then slammed Cody's hand into the table. The clones in blue cheered and taunted the clones in yellow good naturedly.
"Show off." Ahsoka muttered to Rex when she was close enough.
"Anything for you, Cy - er... Commander." He said, stuttering over his mistake. Now that they were back with the republic, they would have to hide their relationship. Even at this close, somebody might be listening.
"Well, the clones seem to be glad you're back." She said, raising her voice to a normal conversation tone as they walked up to the food line. Breakfast was the normal rations, and it almost made her nostalgic for the stew they had in the cave.
"Yeah, they had Fives in charge while I was gone." He groaned. Ahsoka winced.
"I almost feel bad for them. At least nobody woke up with pink hair." She conceded. Fives was a shameless prankster.
"No, but there was a small epidemic of drawn-on facial hair." Rex pursed his lips. They finished the meal and Ahsoka walked with him to the officers barracks. As they entered, their eyes were drawn straight to Rex's bed, which was covered in animal fur. He opened his mouth, closed it, and spun on his heel marching to the ARC trooper barracks were most of them were still asleep.
Rex bust through the door and threw on the lights. "ARC TROOPER 27-5555!" He roared. The ARC troopers didn't even flinch. This had happened before. They all just raised a hand and pointed at teh offending trooper. Ahsoka smiled. It was good to be back.
