Beep...Beep...Beep...Beep

Rex's eyes fluttered open to stare at a blindingly white ceiling before he shut them again in a hurry. Ok, so he wasn't dead. Probably. He tried to run a quick minor examination of himself without looking. Feet are there, right hand, left... Ow.

He let out a groan as he tried to move his left hand. He didn't want to open his eyes again, three days in near blackness and then who knows how long unconscious made the light of what he guessed to be some sort of medical ward blinding. He guessed his hand was bruised, not broken. Other than the pounding headache and his hand, he felt fine.

Rex tried to take a deep breath, and abandoned the idea as he began to cough violently. As his chest stopped spasming, he gasped at the air. Then he realised he had some sort of mask on. The rubbery fitting was loose against his skin, fitting him easily. He hadn't felt it at first, but it bugged him now that he knew it was there.

He heard a soft groan from across the room, one that tugged at his heart. Ahsoka. He used his good hand to push himself up, and crack his eyes open against the light. She was laying in a bed across from him, a mask over her own face. Her right hand also had vivid bruises on it.

"I don't think the doctors will be happy you're trying to move yet, Captain." A voice came from his right. If Rex had the strength, he would have jumped out of his skin. General Kenobi was sitting next to him, dark circles under his eyes.

"You all gave us quite a scare." The ginger stroked his beard wearily.

"Wha..." Rex rasped, his voice painfull in his ears. Obi-Wan shook his head.

"I wouldn't try to talk quite yet. You lungs are in particularly bad condition. We weren't sure if either of you would wake up again." Obi-Wan pressed a hand on his shoulder, forcing him to lay back down. The hairs on his arms prickled and a flash of heat ran through him. "Get some rest Captain." The jedi smirked, and Rex shot him a glare before the mindtrick forced him into the blackness that was a deep, healing sleep.

When his eyes opened for the second time, the room significantly darker and easier on the eyes. He felt better now, and much stronger. His left hand was covered in bacta, but it didn't feel as bruised. Ahsoka's bed was now next to his, and she was also awake. Her lightsaber lay in pieces around her blanket, and she was fiddling with some part of the energy gate. She jumped when He sat up, and whipped around to face him.

"Rex!" Before he knew what was happening, he had a little togruta curled up by his side with her head on his shoulder. "I'm sorry. You were trying to look out for me and I was a jerk and I never should have raised my voice and then you walked away and life was misery and Obi-Wan was there but I couldn't move and I couldn't breath and-"

"Woah woah woah, slow down Ahsoka. I'm here. I probably over reacted too. But we're safe now." Rex soothed, reaching across to stroke her head with his right hand. Ahsoka took a shaky breath.

"I'm sorry." She whispered, pressing her face into his shoulder. She winced, her right hand also bandaged. She looked up at him, saw his concern and gave a little smile. "Obi-Wan said they had to pry us apart to get us on the stretchers." His mouth fell open.

"I did that? I..." He looked down. Ahsoka reached up and touched his face with her good hand, running a gentle thumb across his cheek. He caught her palm and kissed it, making Ahsoka giggle. "To be fair, I did a number on your hand too... I think we're even." She gave him a soft smile that he returned. She settled back against him with a sigh, and Rex wrapped an arm around her the best he could on the narrow bed.

"Ahsoka?" He asked, thinking back to the last conversation they'd been having before they argued and Anakin interrupted.

"Hmm?" She looked up at him, her blue eyes searching his own gold ones.

"Before the catastrophe that we escaped I asked you something important. I can't... please tell me it wasn't something inappropriate." He begged, watching her face. She looked down and blushed. "Please. I'll never forgive myself if-"

"No. It wasn't anything like that." She cut him off. "You asked me... if when all this, the war, was over... if I would marry you."

Rex leaned back, guilt flooding through him. "I... oh. I'm sorry." He apologized, avoiding her gaze.

"What!? What for? Rex, I said yes. I meant it." Ahsoka's head snapped up to stare at him.

"Ahsoka, I'm a clone." Rex looked down at the white bedsheets, blushing furiously. "The chances of me surviving the war... or even afterwards are slim. My purpose is to die. I don't think- Mmmfff!"

Ahsoka grabbed him by the collar and pulled him down into a kiss. It was soft and sweet, and she rested her forehead on his. When she could open her eyes, Rex met her gaze. "Rex, I swear by every oath I know that you will survive this war. That we both will, so don't you dare say that." She whispered. "We will survive this, and when it's over I will marry you, Captain Rex." She growled. Rex gave a little smile.

"Sir yes sir." He murmured, before kissing her again. She wrapped her arms around his neck, and his found her waist, pulling her closer and deepening the kiss.

"Oh, Force! Breath you two!" A voice came from the door. They parted with a jerk, Ahsoka yelping in surprise and falling off the bed. Rex's head swiveled, looking for the spectator. Anakin stood in the doorway, wearing the loose white tunic and pants from the hospital. He had a cheeky grin stretching from ear to ear. Rex's face turned crimson.

"S-Sir, H-How long have..." He stuttered. Anakin laughed and Ahsoka picked herself up of the floor with a glare at her master before climbing back into her own hospital bed.

"Not nearly long enough. I came to see if you two were awake. I guess the answer is yes." He chuckled. Ahsoka's lip curled and she made an angry growl in the back of her throat. Anakin raised his hands in submission. "Ok, ok. I get the idea. I was never here." He gave one last grin before sauntering out the door and nearly slamming it behind him.

Left alone, Rex turned back to his fiancee. "Well, we just stepped in the bantha dung." Ahsoka snorted.

"At least it was him and not Master Kenobi." Rex chuckled, and the pair shared a secret smile.
