I took a seat in the back of my maths class, and pulled out my sketchbook and pencil. With my eyes on the teacher, I put in my earphones and covered my ears with my hair so that the teacher wouldn't see that I was listening to music.
I began to draw a portrait of a girl with long, dark hair. In a way, she almost resembled me, except this picture was actually pretty. The loud bell rang, signalling that it was recess, I put my things in my backpack and got up to leave the room. "Zoe, I'd like to talk to you for a second." I turned around to see my maths teacher sitting at his desk with some papers in his hands.
"What?" I asked, wanting to get away from him.
"Your grades are declining dramatically, is there any explanation for this?" I sighed, knowing that this was supposed to affect me but for some reason, I couldn't care less.
"Ah...no. Not really," I replied.
"Now I understand that you don't come from the best home, so if you would like to, you can go see the councillor and talk about how you feel about all of this." He said.
As soon as I heard the word councillor, I turned on my heels and walked out. I didn't hear anything else from my teacher and I was glad.I couldn't understand why all of my teachers wanted me to get counselling because I'm fine, there's nothing wrong with me. I mean sure I don't have a supportive family, or any family at all because my father left my mother as soon as he found out she was pregnant with me, and my older sister, Emily, ran away when she was 15, and I was 10.
I also have no friends. Apparently that's a problem according to my teachers, but I'm fine with it, most people hate me anyway so there's no point trying to befriend them.
I walked for a little bit before finding the place that I always sit at break times; behind a classroom at the back of the school. It was undercover so I could be there, even when it was raining.
I sat on the cold concrete and pulled out my sketch book again to continue my drawing.I was lost in my thoughts, and when I checked the time on my phone I realised that it was ten minutes until last period started. I had been sitting here almost all day, even though it felt like 20 minutes.
I decided to get up and leave when the bell that signalled the start of last period, rang. I made my way to my English class room and sat at the back of the room.
Ten minutes into the class and the door opened to reveal Luke.
"Sorry I'm late, miss!" He said. The teacher frowned and told him to take a seat.
Because this was a large class, the only empty seat was the one next to me. Luke sat down next to me and took out his books.
I got out my sketch book to start another drawing. I placed my phone on the desk and put in my earphones to listen to the song 'Disasterology' by Pierce The Veil. The loud bell rang, signalling the end of last period. "Nice drawing" Luke said, winking, before walking out.
I sighed and put my book in my bag and my phone in my pocket. As I walked out the door, my English teacher said "Zoe, can you please stay back and talk to me for a little while?"
I completely ignored her, not being in the mood to talk to anyone.I couldn't understand why Luke had started talking to me. I mean, sure he was kinda good looking, and he wasn't exactly popular, so if I was friends with him, it wouldn't cause too much attention towards me.
But why me? Out of all the pretty, skinny, popular, happy and perfect girls at our school, why is he talking to me?Luke's POV
I walked into class and saw that the only seat left was one next to Zoe. I was cool with that.
I took my seat and pulled out my books to begin my work.
For some reason, I couldn't stay focused, all I could think about was the girl sitting next to me.
I couldn't help but notice her phone sitting on the desk. I picked it up and saw that she had an All Time Low case. At lease she didn't listen to crappy pop music like most of the girls at our school.
I unlocked her phone and to my surprise, she didn't have a password.
I went into her contacts and put in my name with the smiley face emoji next to it, and my number. I then went into her messages and sent a text to myself saying "hey :)"
I quickly locked her phone before she could see that it was on.
The bell rang, and I shoved my books in my bag. She looked up at me as I stood up and I winked and said "nice drawing", gesturing to her book, before walking out of the room.
