Chapter 37 - The Odd One Out

James' POV

After the shopping, I've noticed that Adam and Ella have been getting closer together. They've been bounding over demon problems. I'm happy with them getting along. The things is having two demons in you're house makes me feel a little left out of the conversation.

I woke up decided to have some breakfast. Adam and Ella were already downstairs and eating Cocoa Puffs and bananas. "Ella I thought you didn't like bananas." I said.

"Daddy told me to try and I like them now. They're really good. Do you want one?"

"Don't worry Ella. Jameson only like the banana I give to him." Adam said. Heat rushed quickly to my face as I looked away. Adam started laughing as Ella just sat confused. "W-whatever." I studdered.

After breakfast, Adam was brushing through Ella's hair and polishing her horns. "After this can I watch you animate your video?" Ella asked.

"If you want than sure. The video is actually about being a new dad. It's all about you. I think you'll really like it." Adam said.

"Hey Ella, I'm making a video about being a new dad too. Do you wanna see it?" I asked. "In a little James." she said. I sighed and just kept working on my video without them.

While animating I heard them playing with each other in the other room. I feel so left out of the fun and it's awful. When I look at them, they seem to happy. It's almost like Adam doesn't need me as a husband anymore, like Ella doesn't need her other dad.

At lunch, we all sat down and ate some sandwiches. "Hey Ella, want a demon sub?" Adam asked. Ella nodded excitedly. Adam got up and started making one. It had tomatoes, lettuce, cheese, ham, bacon, and spicy chicken. It was a super packed sandwich with some spice in it. He would also make two horns with the bacon and have it sticking out. He made it with me a few years ago. He cut the sandwich in half and shared it with Ella.

I picked up my sandwich and went into the bedroom. "James where are you going?" Adam asked as I marched inside and shut the door.

Why am I so mad? They have a good relationship now. There both so happy together. When am I so sad? Why do I feel like I don't belong in this family? I sighed and ate my sandwich in my room.

After I finished, I heard even more noise from the two. Great. I walked downstairs and peaked from the corner. Now they were playing a video game. Adam was showing Ella how to play Smash Bros. Why can't I have a teaching moment like that?

"Hey guys, wanna play a game?" I asked sliding into the room.

"James we're already playing a game."

"I know but have you taught Ella Tetris. Tetris is fun and very addicting. Let me show you." I grabbed the controller out of Adam's hand and started Tetris up. She has to like this. Only I can teach her about this game.

"James we were in the middle of some-"

"Ok Ella, the goal is to move the blocks together to make a complete line. You make sure you don't get to the top of it's game over. Let me help you." I started to play the game as well as I could. I heard Adam grumble about something. I got in the top 50 and things got faster. "See Ella, doesn't this look like fun?" I asked.

"I don't know. I was kinda looking forward to playing Smash with Daddy."  she said.

"Well, maybe you should give Tetris a chance. Tetris just wants to spend time with you. Maybe you should give Smash a break and play with Tetris."

"But I don't care about Tetris."

"Well Tetris cares about you and sometimes in life you gotta do what's best for Tetris."

"But it's not fun to me."

"Well maybe if you have it a change instead if spending all your time with Adam you would!"

Ella whimpered as I lost the game. She seemed terrified, like I was a monster. I look over at Adam who seemed worried about me. "But fine, play the game you want." I got up and walked into the bedroom. I collapsed on the bed and punched a pillow.

Adam walked into the room and sat next to me. "Hey James, is something wrong?" he asked. He out his hand on my shoulder.

"Yes of course there's something wrong. Do I need to spell it out more for you?" I snapped. Adam pulled away and jumped. "James I-" "You're always hogging Ella! Ever since you've been to the grocery store you two have been together non-stop. All you guys do is rub in my face your demon life. I'll never be a demon like you guys and I already know that. "

"James that's not what were trying to do."

"Well your doing it! You told me to spend more time with Ella before and now I want to do it you take her away from me. You're a huge fucking hog Adam! You never give me a chance around Ella! It's like I'm not important to you guys anymore. If you think you can raise Ella without me than fine. I'll just go! I don't even wanna be around a bunch of stupid demons anyway! You guys are nothing!" I blurted out.

I looked over at Adam. He looked shocked at the things a said and even a little hurt. His tail dropped and he looked down. I realized my mistake and reached out for him. "Adam. I-I so sorry!", I started tearing up a bit. "I shouldn't of been so mean. I don't wanna leave you guys. I'm a monster. I'm a terrible husband. I'm a terrible father. I'm so sorry Adam."

Adam pulled me into a hug as I started to cry. I sobbed into his shoulder as he rubs my back. "It's ok Jameson. I'm sorry that I didn't let you spend enough time with Ella. But you aren't a terrible father or husband. I married you because I love you. Ella loves you just as much as she loves me."

"How would I know? She likes being with you more than being with me. She loves spending time with you."

I saw Ella peak into the room and look at me. "But I love you Dad." she said. She walked over and sat on my lap. "I made this for you because you were feeling sad." She showed me a drawing of her and I together. I smiled and sobbed a little. For a 5, year old she's a really great artist. "Thanks Ella, I love it." I said. "And I love you Dad." She hugged my chest and I held her tightly. Adam dried my tears and smiled at me.

Adam went outside to go shopping for something leaving Ella and I to spend some time with each other. I ran around the house looking for her as she hid. Once I found her, I tickled as she started to laugh. Next, we drew some pictures. She made a drawing of all three of us as a family. Then, we payed Tetris together, which she actually liked a lot. She's getting good. Finally, we shared some MandM's together.

When Adam came back we Al sat on the couch. "Hey Jameson. I have a surprise for you." Adam said, while holding something behind him. "It was my idea!" Ella said.

Adam pulled out a demon horns headband. "I can't make you a demon but you can pretend to be one. Now you can feel included with us." Adam placed the headband on my head as Ella cheered. "I have the best two demons in the whole world." I picked up Ella and hugged her and kissed Adam. I'm so glad I have them in my life.
