As soon as Severus laid me on the best, I was unconscious. A few times throughout the night, I woke briefly to find Severus either pouring over my moon charts or reading books he had house elves bring him. I wanted to ask him what he was doing, but I was so touch and go I could have been dreaming for all I knew.
When the sun finally came up, I could feel my power slowly leeching back into me. Sitting up slowly, I looked around to find Severus gone. I was half-convinced I had dreamed the whole thing, but the stack of books he had been reading over sat on the table next to my charts.
I stayed in bed until it was time for me to begin my rounds. Even being away for one night, and even then having to track down wayward students, left me on edge. Wrapped in my cloak, I patrolled on foot, not daring to use my shadow animals until the moon was fuller.
I had made it down to the dungeons for a quick round when I passed my Severus' open office door. Pausing I looked in to find him going through his ingredient on their shelves, carefully choosing several.
"Thank you for what you did," I said softly so I wouldn't startle him. Severus turned, his hands full of vials and various potion ingredients.
"The moon is the source of your power," He replied simply and I nodded.
"You shouldn't have pushed yourself like that then," Severus said, setting the ingredients on his desk, "You do realize you could have killed yourself right?"
Slightly offended, I answered in a clipped tone, "I know my limitations."
"Apparently not."
I had lapsed from offended to outrage. How dare he scold me like a child? He could never know what living like this was like. Fuming, I turned on my heel and stormed out of his office.
