The next night, Severus came to my room right before sundown. His sudden appearance surprised me, and I nearly dropped the vial he had given me.
"I haven't taken the potion yet," I said, holding it up for him to see.
"I figured you hadn't," He said, "I wanted to see how it worked. Are you staying in tonight?"
As he spoke, he came closer until we were just standing inches apart. I looked up at him, feeling a little breathless as I replied, "Yes, for tonight I am."
"Then I will stay with you." Severus' response took me off guard. Before I could reply, he moved to the window to check the position of the moon.
"You don't have to stay with me," I finally said, "I'm fine on my own."
"I think after last night it would be poor form for me to leave you on your own," He answered, turning back to me. I watched him, a little perplexed. Did he think because we had made out he was now responsible for my safety?
"You don't have to stay with me," I said as he came closer, cupping my chin in one hand.
"I want to." Was his reply.
