A/N

If you are one of those people who like to listen to music while they read, this is the song I was listening to while I wrote this chapter. Just in case y'all want to get the vibe of it, lol.

The title of the song is: I Put a Spell On You by Annie Lennox.

Enjoy! :D

Jade's POV

As the redhead made her way toward me, I took a moment to study the faces around the room.

They already knew—or at least thought they knew—what was about to happen.

What they didn't know was that I rarely had any interest in doing what people expected.

By the time Ginger reached me, curiosity had already settled in. Whatever they'd decided, I was going to make sure the room remembered it.

She leaned toward my ear and whispered the verdict.

My gaze shifted automatically toward Jesse.

He was standing a few feet away, visibly tense, repeatedly pinching the side of his neck like the motion alone might calm him down.

A slow smirk tugged at my lips.

Maybe he hadn't completely ruined my night after all.

The room went quiet.

I let my expression settle into something unreadable and tilted my head slightly, watching Jesse fiddle with the hem of his shirt.

Instead of walking toward him, I turned toward the kitchen counter and poured myself another drink.

There was no need to rush.

If anything, making him wait would only make the whole thing worse for him.

I took a slow sip and looked across the room until our eyes met.

He froze almost immediately.

That was the thing about most guys. They liked to tell themselves they were in control right up until they realized they had already stepped exactly where I wanted them.

Black Widows don't chase.

They wait..

And when someone ignoresevery warning and wanders too close anyway, that is hardly her fault.

Without breaking eye contact with Jesse, I held my drink out toward Sawyer.

He took it automatically.

Then I started walking.

The crowd seemed to part on its own as I crossed the room, every set of eyes following me.

Jesse didn't move.

By the time I stopped in front of him, he looked as though he'd forgotten he was supposed to.
