KIM T.

My sleep was interrupted by sinister growls in the middle of the night. I shot upwards and listened carefully in an attempt to identify the source. While one sounded like the deranged creatures that were once fairly decent animals, the other was darker and more creepy, almost disturbing. It sent chills down my spine.

I quietly crawled toward the entrance of my tent, not forgetting to grab my gun and suppressor. I quickly and silently, snapped the suppressor piece into the barrel of my pistol and peered around outside. I almost shit myself from what met my eyes.

My eyes widened at the four eyed bear that stood at least three times my height. The four eyed bear was one of the most dangerous creatures to roam the Outskirts. It's fur was pale but matted and covered in blood in certain places. He had some missing claws, but the ones he did have were broken and uneven. It was missing fur in some places of its face, scars replaced the missing hair.

What scared me more than the bear, was the deer that stood on two legs in front of it.

Its body was sickenly thin, as if it didn't have organs and was just skin and bones. The hooves were pointed, almost like two big claws. Their arms were almost too long for its body, the hands thin and long, the nails razor sharp. Its face was a pure skull and antlers sticking out of the sides, the eyes were deeply sunken in, small but sharp and glowed a greenish yellow, making any victim of its gaze frozen in fear.

I almost dropped my gun when the deer creature looked at me, and my body began to shake on its own. Something about the aura it gave off was familiar, but my fear was taking over my senses and thought process.

Suddenly it hit me, and a name popped in my head, "Jung...kook?"

The creature snapped its head around at me, nodding. Jeon turned his attention back to the bear, letting out a cry that made me drop my gun and cover my ears. I couldn't help but freeze and watch the events unfold before me.

The deer- Jeon- took a step closer to the beast in front of him. The bear was frozen, it looked just as scared as I was. But it quickly snapped out of it and charged towards the shape shifting soldier. However, the closer the bear got, the more hesitant it was, and once it was about three feet away from Jeon it stopped moving.

Jeon wasted no time and launched himself towards the shaking creature, going right for its throat. I gasped when he pulled away from the bear and spit out the chunk of flesh he had ripped off, burgundy blood dripping from his incisors and gushing from the bear's wound. He turned towards me, and I barely caught his words as he spoke to me.

"Shoot him."

I swallowed my nerves, and quickly picked up my gun and aimed it. I shot two rounds in the bear's head and he fell with a loud thud. I blinked and Jeon was human again, casually walking up to the four eyed bear to make sure it was dead. He kicked its side and sure enough, the bear didn't move.

He turned towards me, his face covered in blood and his eyes still glinting. "Welp, that takes care of that," he said with a smirk.

"Holy shit Jeon, what the fuck are you?" I looked around and saw Yoongi outside of his tent, next to a shivering Jin.

The younger soldier noticed the oldest distressed state, "Jin, are you okay?"

"Natural selection at its finest," he replied, his voice wavering.

Jeon chuckled. "Damn straight, I assess the situation and naturally select whose ass I'll kick," he explained while doing a little dance.

Yoongi and I looked at each other, then back at Jeon. "What the fuck is wrong with you?" I questioned.

"What do you mean?"

"You're literally dancing after you mauled a fucking BEAR, while there's still blood on your face!"

"Hey," he cut him off, drawing out the word. "I didn't maul it, I simply took care of it." He put his hand on his hips and jutted his bottom lip out.

"Oh gods, I think I need to go lie down," Seokjin stumbled back into his tent mindlessly, and I could see his skin had taken on the slightest green tinge.

I sighed and ran my hand across my face. "Jeon, go get your ass cleaned up. You look fucking disgusting." He gave me a quick mock salute, a smile playing at the corners of his lips.

"Yes sir!"

"Might as well get ready for my patrols," I grumbled to myself.

"I'm going back to bed, wake me at 0400." I nodded in acknowledgment at Yoongi's statement.

I climbed back into my tent to gather the rest of my gear and uniform. After collecting my last pistol, I went to check on Jin to make sure he didn't throw up all over the general's tent.

Granted, the tents weren't the nicest, but they belonged to the military. If General found out one of his tents were dirty, he would have a conniption fit. As in, the world would almost end. Literally.

"Seokjin?" I called out quietly to not startle the jumpy man.

"Hmm?"

I wasn't sure if he was dozing off or still feeling sick. I pinched the bridge of my nose, praying to gods he didn't make a mess.

"You alright in there? You didn't blow chunks did you?"

There was a moment of silence. "Yeah, I-I'm fine," he grunted out.

"Did you make a mess?" I asked urgently, slightly losing my patience.

"N-no I didn't, I sw- ah," he sounded like he was in pain, and without thinking I jumped into action. I quickly opened the tent and went in to drag his ass out so he could do it in the grass. But, I stopped in my tracks when he looked at me and I saw his eyes.

They were glowing violet, shining brightly even in the shadow of the tent. I froze, studying his face and the glowing orbs of his eyes, shocked.

He blinked, and the glowing color was gone as fast as I saw it. I regained my composure and dragged him out of the tent by the arm. I'm glad I did right then and there, because as soon as his feet hit the grass he was emptying his stomach.

"This is gonna be one hell of a mission," I murmured to myself as I went to patrol our little campsite.
