CHAPTER SIXTEEN

As I was crying I heard someone knocking on my door.

"Go away dad!" I yelled hoping that wasn't my dad or Carol. Someone opened the door a little and there stood my brother with his teddy in his hands.

"Why are u crying?" he asked and suggled up to me.

"It's some adult things baby, you'll get it when u grow up" I sad with tears spilling down my eyes

Tom saw Hero through my window and waved at him. I got up quickly trying to close the blinds but Hero already saw me crying.  Shit. I quickly closed the blinds and snuggled with Tom until we both fell asleep. 

"Loren, get up! It's two pm!" yelled my dad from downstairs. I groaned and went down in my pjs to eat breakfast, or lunch. I'm not sure. But I sure did look as one big mess. My hairl looked like a bird's nest and I was wearing my new pajama, a red long sleeve shirt and some beige pj pants with reindeers and trees. 

I went downstairs trying not to talk to anyone cause I wasn't in the mood. But of course there were George and Martha talking with dad and Carol about the sunday barbecu for tommorrow witch is also George's birthday friday. 

I took some cereal and ate them in silence, listening to their conversation. Gaorge said Hero was gonna bring some girl with him tommorrow. I rolled my eyes. 

"You wanna ask that guy you went on a date yesterday?" asked my date

"He's just a friend but yeah sure why not" I said and turned to go upstairs.

"Excuse me young lady where are u going, it's two pm" asked dad

"Oh um I was thinking that maybe I could go to the lybrary today, ya know a lot of stuff, we're studying contracts now u know dad, law is hard haha" I said with a nervous laugh

"Okay just don't stay too long" he said

"yeah I won't don't worry" I said and got ready to go to the library. I put my hair in a messy bun and put on my sweats and one of Hero's hoodies. I took my stuff and got in the car. I was listening to some 70's music and vibing the whole way to the library.

When I got there I took my laptop and found some books I needed for my essay and started writing on my laptop. After like an hour someone sat beside me. It was Cain.

"Hey" he said and smiled

"Hey" I said, my brain was blocked and I didn't know what to say

"So um how are you?" said Cain

"I'm, oh I don't recall if I said thank you for yesterday, it was great" I said

"Um yeah, It was but I wanted to talk to you about it... Well Loren I would really like to hang out with you more, if u want to of course..." he said 

"Yeah, of course" i said

"Hey u two, this is a library, shhh!" whisper yelled the librarian at us. We giggled and talked some more while doing stuff for school.

"Hey, so my parents are havin some kind of a party tommorrow and, would you maybe be my date to the party? I mean if u don't want to go it's okay" I said

"oh, I would love to go" he said

"great, so the party starts at 3, could you come any earlier?"  

"Yeah, is 2 okay with u?" 

"Yes of course, oh and wear something casual" I said, after that we said our goodbyes and both went home to our houses. I really hope he won't catch feeling for me.

the next day

It was 1.30 pm and I was getting ready for the barbecue. I choose my outfit for today to be my Led Zeppelin crop top and my checkered black skirt with some Dr. Martens. As I was putting mascara on my eyes there was a door bell heard from downstairs. I went down to open the door and there stood Cain, looking casual with some ripped jeans and a white blazer shirt. I pulled him up the stairs with me in my room so I could finish getting ready. 

As we got up he was looking at some pictures in my room that I had on my dresser.

"You look really cute in this picture" he said holding the pic with my best friend from Toronto, Donna. 

"Aw, thank you, it was taken on 4th of July" I said standing next to him and smiled, remembering the moments with my old friend group. I looked through my window seeing Hero standing there and looking at us.

"And u look really beautiful right now" he said and pulled me by my waist. I placed my hands on his and he slowly started to lean in. I closed my eyes and kissed him, but I didn't feel anything. It felt so wrong. I didn't want to kiss him. 

It was now the barbecue time and we all sat outside on the lawn chairs. Hero was with Inanna and Samuel and I was talking to Cain by the house, watching the kids playing on green grass. There were only four chairs and Hero, Samuel and Inanna sat on all four so I sat in Cain's lap. The tension between Hero and I was so strong u could cut it with and axe. As the day went by nothing special happened until George and the grown ups decided to go to Georges house and leave us kids by ourselves. 

It was 10 pm, Tom's sleeping curefew so I said goodbye to Cain as he went home and Hero was outside tyding up with his friends. I picked Tom up and brought him to his bed. I read him a goodnight story and he quickly fell asleep, poor thing he must be so tired from all the activities they had today. 

As I was getting out of his room and slowly closing the door there was suddenly someone who pushed me up the wall and placed their hand on my mouth so I wouln't scream. 

"Hero, what the heck are u doing!" I whisper yelled at him. 

"Come here, we gotta talk" He said and pulled me in my room.
