It all started when I was 4 years old. I was turning 5 tomorrow and my mom said that she had a surprise for me. "Mom can u just tell me what my surprise is?" I said sounding annoyed and excited at the same time

"No, you'll see for yourself tomorrow" my mom said "now please go to sleep and when you wake up I will take you to your surprise."

"Okay I love you mommy" I said in a tired voice.

"I love you too. Sweet dreams honey" my mom responded

I closed my eyes and fell into a deep sleep. After a few hours of sleep I woke up to a voice calling my name. It was my mom telling me to get up.

"Sierra. Sierra! Well I guess you don't want to see your surprise" she said

I quickly got up. I'm up! I'm up!" I yelled in frustration because there is no way I'm missing my surprise

My mom started talking "okay now put this on" she handed me a blind fold. I'm assuming that I have to put this on so I can be really surprised. My mom smiled "okay now take my hand and I will lead you to your surprise"

I quickly obeyed and grabbed my mom's hand. I may have forgotten to mention this but I'm one of the creatures living in the ocean trying to hide from the humans and so is my mom. Me and my mom are different from the other fish that swim around in the ocean. We like to keep to ourselves in the depths of the ocean where there is no light, just pitch black darkness. I have never seen the light above before.

Luckily it's not that dark where I live because me and my mom can see through the dark. We were born with night vision that was made to see through the darkness of the ocean. Our night vision comes in handy when we have to escape predators. We also have the ability to swim fast. We are almost faster than the speed of light itself. My mom said to not use my speed unless I'm escaping danger. If I used it all the time then I would eventually get tired and could easily fall into the hands of either predator or humans.

Humans are tracking different sea creatures but they never caught me and my mom. Me and my mom are special.

We are magical and mysterious

We are beautiful and known as creatures of legend

No human has ever caught scientifically proven evidence that we exist

We are smart and clever

We are hard to trick or trap

We are mermaids

For those of you who don't know, mermaids are magical creatures. They are humans but instead of legs we have long, beautiful fish-like tails. We are known to humans by legend but no one has ever caught evidence that we exist. My mom said that humans are stupid and think that mermaids are supposed to be beautiful maidens that lure out boats of men and destroy their ships. The only part of that legend that is true is the 'beautiful maiden' part.

Me and my mom are both mermaids but we look a little different from each other. My mom has brown hair, she has a light brown tail and a light brown bikini top to cover her woman parts. I on the other hand have a light blue tail and a light blue bikini top. My hair is long and strange. I was born with an unusual and rare hair color. I was born with light blue hair with dark blue streaks. I absolutely adore my hair color and my mom said that when I was born she was speechless at how beautiful my hair was. The way we talk is different, since we live underwater we communicate through our minds using 'telepathy'

"We're here" I heard my mom yell.

I took off my blind fold to see a beautiful part of the ocean. There was different kinds of fish and coral. I could sea urchins, anemone, different species of jellyfish, and I could actually see the sun. This was my first time seeing all of this. I laid on the ocean floor with my mom right beside me and looked up as the yellow, orange sun hit the water. "It's so pretty" I said in a calm voice trying not to pay any attention to anything except for all the pretty colors surrounding me.
