3/31/08 Dear Diary,

Anthony did it, he finally did it. His bark, finally gained its bite. I, Tabitha Shay, am now a punching bag. I never took him seriously, God help me. The truth is I underestimated him. Never will I make that mistake again. Lauren is out of town on business so it’s just Anthony and myself. One of my many chores is to make dinner. Tonight I served a pan seared sirloin crusted with herbs and drizzled lightly with a light reduction sauce. On the side I put roasted vegetables and a salad. I took a granola bar up to the closet that serves as my bedroom and started doing my homework. I heard the door open and several pairs of footsteps enter. ‘Great, it has friends’ I thought. I could hear their muffled conversation and then I heard something shatter.

“Tabitha you good for nothing girl, get your sorry butt in here now!” Anthony bellowed. I froze and gulped. I shakily put my stuff down and entered the kitchen. There stood a seething Anthony with six of his buddies. They were all deathly silent. “What is this?” He asked calmly pointing to the plate of food I left out for him.

“Dinner.” I mumbled not raising my gaze from the floor.

“You expect all of us to eat this? Answer me girl!” I numbly shrugged my shoulders. All of a sudden I was lifted by my throat and shoved up against the wall. “No, the answer is no girl!” Anthony shouted in my face. I opened my mouth to tell him I wasn’t informed he was bringing friends home but was cut off by a fist slamming into my face. The pain was blinding, I could feel the blood gushing from my nose like Niagara Falls. I let out a sob. This continued on for what seemed like forever. What did his friends do during this time? Did they try and stop him; did they call the cops or try and help me? No, not even close. They all cheered him on and told him to give me what I deserved. I managed to escape after he stopped and turned his back. I’m currently locked in my room as I’m writing this. You want to know my feelings Dad, since that is the only reason I’m writing this? Hurt, used, worthless, betrayed, tired and in pain, aren’t even close to summing up how I feel.

I love you Dad, but why did you have to leave me? Please watch over me and protect me.
