Two Years Later
"I think that the couch should go right there," I say pointing at a spot that is in front of the television and will give whoever is sitting there a good view. The demon nods and sets the couch there.
I walk with Will down to the dungeons and smile at the furnishing. The rooms have a white carpet and dark purple paint on the walls. A bunk bed in each of them and a table with two chairs. Each room also has a television set where the people on the bunk beds can see it.
A tablet sits on each bunk bed, one per prisoner. There's a light switch and a bathroom connected to each cell, away from where anyone can see it. Overall, the cells seem really comfortable.
Arsenic stands talking to the guards about their duties and I smile. I let them organize the cells how they want, as they knew what it was like to be in a stuffy uncomfortable one.
I walk over to them and wait for them to finish their conversation. Will takes my hand and smiles at me. Arsenic gets done with their conversation and walks over to us. They grew a lot in two years, even being put on hormone blockers.
"Hi dad! Hi pops! How do you like the dungeon?" They ask. I nod approvingly. Will ruffles their hair and smiles at them. Arsenic smiles proudly and takes us on a tour of the dungeons.
A guard is to walk through them every half an hour unless they think that something is going on. They prisoners have everything they need at their hands to use. They aren't allowed any knives and only plastic utensils. Arsenic really thought the whole thing through.
We walk up the stairs and outside to meet the first batch of prisoners. They get out of one of the cars and gawk up at the mansion. Arsenic leads them and the people holding onto them into the dungeons. Most of the prisoners stop and look around as they get into the dungeon.
They are put in their cells after I get their attention and have Arsenic tell them the rules. A child about Arsenic's age is lead to a cell but Arsenic stops the guard.
"Who are you? What is your name and pronouns?" They ask the child. The child looks around and then points at themself questioningly. Arsenic nods and the child takes a breath.
"Uhm, I'm Rio. He/Him," he says. Arsenic nods and takes off the boy's handcuffs. Just then Caramel and Ink run into the room. Well more like Caramel runs into the room dragging Ink behind her. They look just excited as she is though.
"There are mates in here, I can feel it!" Caramel yells. She walks over to the guards and a bunch of the prisoners but finds nothing. She sighs and walks back over to us but stops in front of Rio. She gasps and looks over at Arsenic.
"I knew it! There are mates in here! It's Arsenic and this person!" She exclaims happily. Ink rolls their eyes at her but still smiles lovingly. Arsenic and Rio look at each other and laugh. Arsenic takes his hand and smiles widely at Rio.
"Okay then. Guess we should go get to know each other?" Arsenic asks him. He nods. Arsenic looks over at me for permission to leave and I nod. The guards can handle the rest of the prisoners. Caramel and Ink start to walk out but then I ask them something.
"Do you know where Cocoa and Kaiser are?" I ask them. Caramel nods and runs over to take my hand. She pulls me up the stairs and to a living room before leaving. Will finally catches up to me and we walk into the room. Cocoa and Kaiser sit there and watch a movie with some of the younger children that were under Tucker and Polly's rule.
They look up as we enter the room and gesture us over. We walk around the kids so we don't get in the way of their movie. Cali and Ray sit at their moms' feet, talking to friends and only halfway watching the movie that's playing.
"We have to leave soon," I tell them. They nod and get up from the couch. Ray and Cali get up too, after saying goodbye to their new friends. Another few adults come in to watch the movie with the kids.
We all walk out of the house and I text Arsenic that it's time to leave and to bring Rio with them. They get outside after a couple of minutes, Caramel and Ink not far behind. We pile into the two cars and drive back to the house.
We get out and the kids go to their living room that conjoins all their rooms. Cocoa and Kaiser go off on their own. Me and Will walk up to our room and I flop somewhat gracefully onto the bed.
Will puts a video game into the WiiU and hands me a remote. We play Mario Kart for a couple of hours before Kaiser texts and says that it's time to come eat dinner. Will beats me in the last lap and kisses me before running out of the room.
I boot after him and jump on his back as I catch up. He lifts me up and I get a piggy back ride to the kitchen. The kids are already sitting there eating and look up and laugh as Will comes in carrying on his back. He sets me down and we grab some of the meatloaf that Cocoa made.
"It's really good, thank you," I tell her after I finish taking a bite. She nods sheepishly and leans closer to Kaiser. Kaiser wraps her arm she isn't using to eat around Cocoa's shoulders and smiles at her girlfriend.
The kids argue and I realize how much they've all grown in two years. I smile and lean into  Will's side as we sit on the counter and eat our meatloaf. I take a few bites as I remember how we met and one thing that's stick with me the whole time.
"You know, you were right," I tell him. He looks over at me questioningly. Kaiser and Cocoa look over too. I look at Arsenic and smile at our child. I look back over at Will. He looks at me questioningly.
"The first time we met, you said 'We aren't all heartless'. You proved that," I tell him. He smiles and lifts my chin to kiss me. Arsenic groans from the table and rolls their eyes as we break apart. I smile at Will and lean into his chest happily.
Yeah, they definitely aren't all heartless.
