“Why exactly are we doing this again?” Asked Hermione worriedly.

“I swear, it’s here, just a little further…” Harry said.

“The Mirror of Erised? Never heard of it…” Draco whispered. “Believe me, there’s a lot of things you don’t know of.” Ron teased. Draco tried to glare, but couldn’t help but laugh quietly.

“This way.” Harry said as he opened the door.

The room was big and blank with windows everywhere. The light from the moon shone around the room making it look eerie, but beautiful at the same time. In the center of the room, stood a tall mirror.

Harry cautiously walked towards to it and looked at it. He started grinning in no time flat.

“Can’t you see them? Can’t you see my parents?” He said.

“Move over, I want to see them.” Ron pushed Harry out of the way.

Like Harry, he was smiling soon, too. “This isn’t your parents, this is me! Look, I have the Gryffindor cup, no offense Lydia and Draco… And I’m Prefect and Head Boy! I’m rich!” He started laughing.

“Rich?” asked Hermione as she nudged Ron out of the way. “Ron, I think you’re wrong… It’s me… I’m an honor student… O’s in every subject! As many possible O.W.L.’s and N.E.W.T.’s!” She squealed with joy and moved over.

“I want to see!” Said Draco as he stepped forward to the mirror. “I’m surrounded by piles of money… My dad is… He’s… He said he’s proud of me.”

“Sorry too ruin your moment, Draco, but can I have a peek at the mirror?” Lydia asked.

Still glassy eyed from staring at his reflection, Draco moved out of the way.

Lydia stepped forward… and she saw Draco, Harry, Ron, and Hermione. She also saw Fred and George behind them, grinning.

“It’s you guys… And your brothers, Ron… Standing here with me…” She blinked at it a couple of times, then shouted “I GET IT!”

Harry’s eyes widened and he put a finger to his lip and shushed her.

“I get it! It’s what we all want to-““What you all want to see. It’s your biggest dreams, hopes and desires.” Someone had cut Lydia off.

Slowly, the gang turned to see Professor Dumbledore standing behind them. They all burst out telling him excuses about why they were out of bed at night, but Dumbledore held out his hand and they stopped talking.

“I don’t know why you are out of bed, and I don’t want to. But I will ask that you don’t go looking for the Mirror of Erised again. The power could go to your head and the ambition might cause some problems with your friendship. And I must say you are the first compatible Gryffindor and Slytherin relationship I’ve seen in a while. Right now, though, I think it’s going extremely well.” He beamed at them and they all smiled shyly back.

“Um… Professor Dumbledore… What do you see in the Mirror?” Asked Harry quietly.

“Me? I see myself holding a pair of nice, woolen socks. Nobody can ever have enough socks.” He grinned happily and Ron snorted, unable to hold his laughter in.

“Now, go back to bed before Mr. Filch catches you out and about.” They nodded and exited.

“You know, I feel like I know you guys a little better after this.” Lydia whispered as she walked back with her friends.

“Well, now I feel like a stuck-up git. None of you guys were there, and Lydia’s most important thing was all of us. I wished to have a stupid badge rather than my best friends.” Mumbled Ron, his cheeks going red.

Draco patted his back. “At least your dad acknowledges you…” He whispered, with a pang of sadness in his voice.

“At least you have a dad…” Muttered Harry.

“Guys, I don’t think this was Lydia’s point… Don’t pity yourselves. I think what Lydia was trying to say was that now that we know this about each other, we don’t have to need a mirror to help us reach our goals.” Hermione contributed knowledgably.

“Thanks Hermione… And how the heck did you not get in Ravenclaw with that brain of yours?” Said Lydia, chuckling.

Hermione blushed bright red. “The hat thought about it, but I’m glad I’m in Gryffindor.” She said as they reached the staircase.

Downwards led to the Slytherin’s common room and many stairs up led to the Gryffindor’s.

“Well, night guys.” Lydia hugged Ron, Hermione, and Harry, then turned with Draco to go down the staircase.

She took Draco’s hand as they went. “Don’t worry,” Lydia said soothingly. “I know you’ll show your dad how brilliant you are. You’ve showed me.”

His face flushed again and before she could say anything he wrapped her in a big hug, knocking the wind out of her. He was shaking slightly and she wrapped her arms around his neck.

“It’s your dad’s problem if he doesn’t see that.” She said, muffled through his chest. He was quite a bit taller than her, as she wasn’t very lofty.

They made their way over to one of the dark green couches, and, still holding each other, fell asleep.
