Lydia awoke next morning to see a barn owl perched on her bedside post holding a piece of paper strapped to its left. She untied it from its leg, rubbed her eyes and read it. It said:

Lydia looked this over a couple times, then looked at her watch. It was already 7:30. She cursed and got dressed quickly.

She ran straight to the dining hall with the owl chirping behind her, as she hadn’t paid it.

Lydia breathlessly sat down next to Draco, who was just finishing breakfast. “Where were you?” He asked, taking a swig of orange juice. “Slept in. Sorry.” She said as she piled kippers, eggs, and toast onto her plate and started eating like there was no tomorrow.

She handed her schedule to Draco while she was chewing. He quickly scanned it over, beaming. “Great, we have all the same classes!” She smiled and drank the rest of her pumpkin juice. She slammed the empty cup on the table and checked her watch again.

“Blimey!” She jumped up and grabbed Draco’s arm, pulling him up too. “Five minutes till Transfiguration!” They took off running to the classroom.

Draco and Lydia ran into the Transfiguration classroom with a minute to go. They looked around to see the rest of the Slytherin first years… and the Gryffindor’s?

Lydia ran to where Harry, Ron, and Hermione were talking. “Hello!” She said. “Hi!” They all said. Draco nodded to the trio and they sat down.

“Hey, where’s McGonagall?” asked a male Slytherin first year as he put his legs up on the desk. “I dunno, Crabbe. Probably late trying to transfigure her ugly face to make it look normal.” The other boy said. “Oh, shut it, Goyle.” Glared Ron.

Goyle turned to Draco and Lydia. “What’re you sitting with them for? There’s empty spaces here.” “They’re our friends.” Said Draco stiffly as the rest of the Slytherin’s burst into laughter. “Shut it, all of you!” Yelled Lydia as she found Draco’s hand underneath the table and squeezed it. His face was bright red with anger, but when he felt her hand, he looked down and relaxed.

“But still, where is she?” Asked Hermione, worriedly.

A brown tabby cat hopped out from the chair behind a desk, and as it leapt it changed into Professor McGonagall herself. “I heard that, Mr. Goyle. A hundred points from Slytherin for his remark, but add fifty points for Miss Aston and Mr. Malfoy.” The Slytherin’s all yelled at Goyle who glared at his desk and some even smiled at Lydia and Draco. Draco sighed.

“Great… Now we have negative fifty points.” “It could be worse.” Muttered Harry. They all shrugged and agreed quietly.
