Darkness. That's all it's been for five years. Life in England changed for me when I was just 18 years old. I still have nightmares from that day. The day my parents never came back, I knew it was the bombs.
When all seemed well for our country, a group called the Valesteins formed. Of course, they had been planning the attacks for 2 years before we noticed. They took over England in just three air waves, terror spreading through the whole country.
Some people survived. The Valesteins captured those who were alive, and brainwashed them into being one of their own. They trained innocent people to be mass murderers, and none of them even knew what was happening.
But for some, there was hope. The Rebels. Nobody knew where their base was, but the Valesteins' base was in central London. I'd been tracking the Rebels down for years, hoping one day I could be one of them. I'd overheard stories from Valestein soldiers, and every story that I heard had the rebels beating the crap out of them.
There were three groups in this country; the Valesteins, the Rebels, and the Survivors. Some people were lucky enough to escape, such as myself.
This is all about them.

All that could be heard in the streets were the echoes of footsteps across the pavement. It was impossible to see anything; the only light guiding me was the dim light of the moon and stars, which had been more visible after most factories shut down. With a pail in one hand and a pistol in the other, I ran through the maze of what was once the beautiful city of London.
Nothing mattered anymore. Nothing ever had, since events from 5 years ago. Except, of course, my older brother Vik. He was the only person I could ever trust. I trusted him to help me win this battle, if no one else in the world could. It was about time things changed, maybe all we needed was a little help.
I reached the place I had wanted to go; a huge pipe that was slanted down on a hill. It had just rained, so the water was running down the pipe. It was the perfect time for collecting drinking water, since the air hadn't had time to pollute the water.
I bent down, set the bucket underneath the pipe, and waited. Once it was filled, I walked to the nearest abandoned store and shoved the door open. I grabbed whatever my bag could carry, and hurried to the old gun shop where I lived. It was clever; living in the gun shop. Vik had come up with the idea shortly after the bombings occured. He had always been the intelligent one.
I pulled my hood over my head and took the long way home, knowing that there were many Valestein soldiers on the normal route. I shoved my key into the slot and opened the door, walking into a single pair of eyes staring at me. Just like every day.
"I'm home," I said, throwing the bag of food onto the table. The shop we lived in was small, with rows of different guns lined up on the wall. It was a mess; there was ammo spread out along the tables and on the floor.
"About time," Vik sighed, walking towards me. He had a worried expression on his face. "What took so long?"
"I decided to stop by that old pipe we discovered last week to get some drinking water," I held up the pail that was overflowing with water.
"Good thinking," He replied, but he was already going through the food supply that I stole.
"Look, I know how worried you get, but I can handle myself."
All he did was nod. I rolled my eyes.
"I think the Valesteins are onto us," I stated in a quiet whisper. "I had to take the long way home. There were about twelve soldiers on the normal route."
"I was just about to get to that," Vik said with a mouthful of nuts. "I might've found out where the Protectors base was."
