The door swung open, waking us both up immediately. I prayed it was someone, anyone, there to rescue us, but it wasn't. It was him.
"Oh," I scoffed and leaned my head against the wall. Simon glanced at me and tilted his head, confused.
"Look, I—"
"I don't want to hear it."
"The cameras are off," He took a step towards me but I glared at him.
"I don't care, Josh. I don't care if they are or not. You're a liar. They probably sent you in here to get information from me, but it's not going to work. I bet they can hear everything."
The look on his face faltered, and he turned away, stepping towards the door.
"Unless you're either here to take me away, or give me a message, I don't want to see you."
"Just, hear me out," I opened my mouth to protest but he glanced at me again. "Please."
I glared at him. "Fine. I'd love to hear what you have to say for yourself."
"It was for your own good," He glanced at Simon when he scoffed. "They were going to kill you."
"Really? Were they? How were they going to kill me when they didn't even know where I was?"
"They would've found out. And when they did, they would have killed everyone. I did it to protect them. To protect you, I—"
"No, Josh, you didn't," I felt my eyes start to water, and I tried to will it away. I wasn't about to cry in front of him again. I'd already shown enough weakness. "You did it to protect yourself. Now tell me what you're actually here for."
He took a deep breath in and stepped towards me. I scooted back, but he kept coming towards me."Get away from me," He kneeled next to me and reached down. I pulled my legs away from him, trying to ignore the dress I was in. The ground was cold, and I felt myself shaking. My heart sped up.
He reached for my hands, though, and unchained my cuffs from the floor. "You were right. I came to get you. Testing starts early today."
He pulled me off the ground and dragged me to the door, closing it behind him.
I had to keep the tears at bay. Testing the previous day had been painful. Of course, I put on a face for Simon. He needed to think everything was okay.
He leaned down next to my ear as we walked. "You need to relax. If they know you're scared, they'll use it against you."
"Scared? I'm not scared," My trembling legs said otherwise. "And I never asked for your advice."
He mumbled something I couldn't hear and sighed, standing back up straight and bringing me to the room.
"Ahh, Bradley, you did it. I didn't think you had it in you."
He just nodded towards the man and pulled me into the small glass room, taking off my cuffs. He then hurried out of the room.
I turned and looked around me, spotting a pile of what I hoped was clothes on the ground.
I expected hospital clothes or something, but was met with a pair of black sweatpants and a blue T-shirt. I glanced around, not sure if it was a trap or not.
"Don't think this was a way of being nice. This is just to keep from distracting my soldiers," He laughed, and I knew he was joking. I was no distraction. And I was grateful I wasn't.
I looked back to the clothes, then pulled the sweatpants on while trying not to show anything. Once the pants were on underneath my dress, I glanced around nervously.
